Well, telling it this way and comparing it to coming out the closet, bet more people know you’re 60 than you think.
Cool, I am too. Doesn’t change my opinion or comment.

Yes. And quickly. Keep it to yourself. It’s a horrible truth — but it is indeed a truth.
OP walking the halls and "acting youthful" at their agency...
If he walked in like this, I'd actually respect him more 😂

I had a GCD who I figured was 45 or so. Maybe younger. Then I did the math and figured out he was at least 10 years older.
I’ll always root for that dude, and I can only hope to be as cool (and employable) when I get there.
No good can come from it
I keep hoping for somehow, the agencies, and marketers to wake up and realize there’s so much use in the folks above 45. Pay them. Have them craft amazing creative. Do they think no one above 45 buys anything? Or uses media outside of TikTok? Why can’t there be a realm that isn’t completely catering to the younger generations. It’s the older folks who have money, right?

It is true we should be able to own it. But I want to stay employed. And at 56, I know many people who haven’t found a job in years. Experience is more expensive and is undervalued.
I’m in the same situation as OP. I keep it to myself but if it comes up organically in conversation I don’t hide it. I quit dyeing my hair a few years ago. It’s silver and I love it. We need to be comfortable and confident in our own skin. It’s one of the benefits of getting older.
Welp I’m just past 60 with a few very young grandkids now. Once the grandkids were announced, people did the math. I know it’s an issue but I’m in pharma so age is not as much of an issue. But I do see ageism coming in as the younger people, (and especially with the move to bringing in award winners from consumer,) changing their tune not to far away.

I’m 52. I easily pass for much younger (thank God). People have continually confused me for someone in their mid to late 30’s. I don’t dye my beard or hair, but I’m starting to think I should. I think that beyond appearance, what has kept me working is that I keep up
with the industry, with pop culture, with trends, with technology, etc. I never stop learning and more than anything, I try not to be set in my ways and try to remain humble. I try to learn from younger people. I don’t pretend like I’m the one who knows everything. I have friends who are younger and pick their brains continually.
But I know I’m just buying time and prolonging the inevitable.
