Depends on your personal limits. If you’re finding yourself overwhelmed, that’s enough of a justification to say no.
Doesn’t matter what other people say. You have to take care of yourself because in this industry, there’s very few people who’ll take care of you, for you.
If people don’t take your “no” seriously, it’s time to switch firms. You’ll at least be paid better at a larger firm, even if the culture isn’t better
BDO SALT is excellent. If you are looking for a career boost and to thrive in this field, let me know. Willing to talk and offer advice.
Well before you get to the point you want to leave. Leadership needs to know that they need to fix something before they will go ahead and fix it. If you keep working too many hours you will become burnt out and eventually leave. That is a bad scenario for the firm and likely a bad scenario for you too if you like your job other than the hours. Give them a chance to fix it before it becomes unfixable. If they choose not to fix it then you at least have time to consider your options without feeling like you have to make a decision that may not be the best for you. (i.e. taking a position somewhere else that you are not excited about just to get away from the hours).
Happy to provide a referral to Alvarez & Marsal. I came from a small company, to Big 4 and now A&M.
Easily the best company I’ve worked for!
Yessss come to A&M 😎

If you want a referral to Deloitte MTS (aka SALT) let me know! I don’t work at Deloitte anymore but I have plenty of friends still in the group
SALT at Big 4. Came from a smaller firm and it’s been so much better! I know some of the smaller firms try to sell WLB but with the talent retention problems recently, I don’t think it’s a valid selling point anymore. Feel free to reach out if you would ever consider giving Big 4 a chance.
Nice, thanks
