I work in house and started 6 months ago. Graduated law school in 2018. base pay is $150K and 15% bonus. Fully remote and unlimited PTO. I got a call from an Amazon recruiter for base salary of $170K, and the rest of the equity/bonus they give. Total comp $285K. Would you guys recommend taking the interview and going to Amazon or stay at the position I am in? Curious if Amazon is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Anyone work at Amazon? And can say how their experience in the NY office is?

That’s a lot of cash for 2018

Out of curiosity how much of the Amazon offer beyond base is equity (vs cash bonus) and what are the vesting terms?

Do you want to work at Amazon? Do you want to work a lot? Do you feel a need for more money?

There’s no such thing as a universal “do not pass on this” job. I’ve passed on Amazon. Others wouldn’t, and would pass on other things. Only you can answer this question. So if you’re curious, take the interview. Find out more — that’s the purpose of an interview. It’s not a commitment. And they may not even give you an offer.

Amazon is not a once in a lifetime opp, they have a ton of lawyers and hire all the time. Not that it’s a super-easy/worthless job or anything, but especially if you have biglaw background, if you pass on this now you could probably apply again in a couple years. However, it’s a hot market right now for hiring in general and that might not be the case in a couple years.

If the job sounds interesting/intriguing to you, I’d do the interview and see how it goes.

That’s great pay for 2018. Is all of your experience in tech?

Nope. Government.

What is a normal pay cut to go in house? For reference, I am a 5th year corporate associate making approx 250k base salary. I was just offered 180k base salary. Is it unreasonable to expect to be around my current rate which is “market” for my city? I don’t care about bonus or equity but know that companies place more value on those - my lifestyle/current expenses (this is short term - working on a big Reno) a higher salary so I’m trying to decide if it’s feasible right now or if I should wait.

When is it time at a struggling company to seek a new role? I’ve only been in my role ~ 1yr. It’s great for prof growth bc I’m on a small legal team in a global co and involved in a wide breadth of matters. High QOL and I like the people.

However, we’ve undergone RIFs (not my region yet). Stock price has taken a hit (above mkt).

Ideally I’d stay at least another year. Ok with some degree of risk bc I’m not the sole breadwinner in my family.
