I would like to learn more about SALT as far as it’s building blocks, key factors, how to apply the logic, researching. Any insight on this? I am aware of the success factors courses.

Know your apportionment factors are and you’re halfway there

Can confirm this

Familiarize yourself between Joyce finnigan, composite/nonresident/PTE/ , apportionment rules, each state is different so their rules matter, market base vs cop vs specific industries most importantly PL86-272

There's also other areas of salt beyond income taxes.

For both income and sales taxes, understand the constitutional limitations of a state's ability to impose a tax. Read and re-read all you can on due process and commerce clause. Learn how to apply these limitations to advocate a position contrary to what a state statute or regulation may say. This will prove invaluable if you're doing more consulting. If you want to just handle compliance, follow what others have stated and you should be good to go.

Do you want a SALT job?

SALT is many things. Income tax, sales tax, property tax, unclaimed property. You can be more on the consulting side or you can be more on the compliance side or you can do some of both. Guessing it depends on the firm. I do a little bit of everything in my firms salt group besides income tax compliance as I despise it 🤣

Is it foolish to defer HSW a year for MBB analyst level in SEA/Greater China?

Stats: no name UG and 2.5 yoe in no name consulting in states, 24M ORM international

Post MBA goal: MBB VC PE IM (really not sure) in SEA/Greater China

Pro for MBB: try out whether I like it and if not can pivot again in MBA; pre MBA MBB might open more doors in VC PE IM in SEA/Greater China

Pro for HSW: faster transition to MBB post MBA level then can re-pivot; not "lagging" a year for analyst shit pay

I accepted a new job, they said PTO was “generous.” I find out it’s 19 days a year of PTO (which includes sick days). I have two young children and we like to vacation 1-2x a year (no more than a few days away each time). Am I crazy that this is pretty limited time off? 8 of the normal holidays off during the year (working the week between Christmas and NYE). Thoughts? I dont know if lack of PTO is a good reason to back out, is it?

Hi! I've been trying to reach the IRS about correcting a name on a return, they won't process my tax return bc of this error. I call the number they provide 800-829-0582 ex. 372 or 772 and when I call i get a message that I need to call the number above. So it's driving me nuts bc it's a literal circle. I've tried calling the number listed on the IRS website and it's only prerecord info. I don't know what to do, any suggestions?

Maxed out Roth IRA contributions when I wasn't eligible for 2021 (got a salary bump mid year). Do I need to recharacterize? It's a very small account that's been open for only two years. That's the only IRA account I own. Do I need to open a traditional IRA and roll over 6k + realized gains into that account and keep the Roth IRA. So confused how this works and got conflicting information from Merrill.
