Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.
Got an offer for a sales applications manager role at Cisco and a Strategic AE role at Amazon - both are basically the same pay (130~ base, 220 OTE)
I don’t have any friends at either company so I was curious if anyone has experience and can shed some light on culture/ work life balance to help me make a decision? Thanks for the help guys!

I’m not a partner, but was referred in by one. During the process I was under the impression it guarantees a screening call/first round interview. Then the rest is in your hands
No guarantees. I can get someone an interview but that’s it. I typically remove myself from the process after the interview is scheduled so I don’t influence the process.
If it’s just a referral it gets you the interview. Maybe if you’re borderline on the interviews, it might get you an offer.
It can also be more than a referral - I’ve seen a partner strongly suggest that we hire a client’s son for an internship.,
No. But are you saying interview for an internal project role or external referral for job?
Eh, lateral I know got an interview from partner referral then didn't pass interview. Partner made a call and they changed their minds. Vouching for you goes a good way, it seems.
I'd assume most partners aren't foolish enough to interfere in the process, but if a Partner wants to just hire someone to their practice team, can't they? That's a bit beyond a referral, though.
No, we can't.
Not at all. Might not even get you an interview.
All partners don’t operate the same way and so the answer differs .
If I want someone for sure in the team - I can push and make it happen . I don’t do that because it beats the sanctity of the hiring process . And I certainly don’t want to set a bad precedence .
It’s a lot more common for Partners to intervene to stop a bad candidate from being hired . This I have done a few times myself .
What may not be clear for non partners is that not all partners have the same clout inside the firm . So that plays a part in this too
No
No. And I wouldn’t want that power. I wouldn’t want to be accountable for that person’s performance.
Accepting partner is the relevant party here
and clear your regular background checks
I’ve heard a rumor that if you’ve got enough clout they can get someone an internship if they push
No only gets you an interview for the most part. Unless you’re very special for some reason or the partner is
Nope.....
It gets an interview but other than that hiring process is objective
I did partner referral interviews and passed about 10%. Only once did I even know what partner referred the candidate.
yikes. do you think you may have been a bit tougher to compensate for the halo effect from a partner referral? i'm working my network to get a partner referral to MBB and have a call tomorrow...
