Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

What kind of certifications? Never heard of that. Like a fork lift operator?
uh so FB Media Buying Blueprint Cert
If agencies want to be in the good books with FB in terms of relationship building, one of the actions is to have everyone do a FB certification. FB like this because it helps drive sales, so hold it up as an action if agencies want more of a relationship/ point person.
So without any other layoff indicators, no this isn’t a potential sign in my view.
You are right that IF layoffs came, adherence to key agency agendas, that are as clearly measurable as this, may well feed into decisions.
great thank you! appreciate the input
I say this with love - this logic makes no sense. I wouldn’t stress if I were you. Sounds like they legitimately just… want you to be certified in your field?
I wish that were the case! But I did read the marketing director's response below
No. It’s a way for some agencies to “brag” their social staff is certified and knowledgeable. I have most of the certifications just because I wanted them, but I felt like they were only 15% useful. If you’re doing the media buying certification, you’ll learn 10000x more just by running campaigns and having a colleague to run questions by. Clients will appreciate that experience more than a piece of paper and having finished some terribly written Meta courses.
appreciate the perspective! I have been running FB ads for close to 2 years now but yeah they are making everyone get certified for Media Buying blueprint
What kind of certificates do you need as a Social Media Strategist that would improve your performance? I feel like a looming email from HR is more telling than mandatory Hubspot certs
ohhh FB Media Buying Blueprint and they are making everyone get it by August essentially
