I always reflect the truth. Be confident about your situation. Getting laid off for reason other than bad performance isn't a matter of concern. It's a byproduct of a capitalist society, especially the employment at will arrangements. Any reasonable person with brains will understand that.
thanks, this is a good point. i agree that reasonable people would understand that, but it feels like there is an implicit bias or thought that you mightve been an underperformer even if your lay-off was due to restructuring
List the years, not the months. It may never come up. A few months isn’t the worst thing in the world.
Test it out and see how it looks. Otherwise, just leave the gap. Don’t explain it unless asked. Be more concerned with honing your layoff story than the gap story— the gap is acceptable considering you were laid off; it’s the “why were you laid off” question ppl are more interested in.
Some indeed do have biases. But if you totally changed industries that’s understandable. You can also say you wanted to take an extended break to travel. And it was worth it before the travel restrictions took place, hah!

Are you employed now? If yes, then don’t lie about it – tell them you were laid off. Good idea to discuss the drivers behind it (I was in cyber transformation and we lost a major contract...).
Bonus points if you can discuss the total laid off cohort (the firm let go approximately 75 people, of which I was one).
If you are currently unemployed that’s two firms that have let you go and could invite biases. Don’t recommend you lie, but the excuse above is less understandable.

I (regrettably) have an employment gap in my resume and I’m just honest. It came right after the 08-09 recession so people have been understanding. No idea how many interviews I wasn’t considered for because of it though... it’s long ago so no one asks anymore
