I'm in NYC now and while I do love it, it is drastically more expensive than Texas. Especially with the rent prices what they are now. It will definitely be a good experience in terms of life, but be sure to really understand that you won't have the same quality of life in terms of finances.
Pro
My finances are better than they were in Texas and my quality of life improved now that I’m not in a car based city. I think you under estimate the costs of car and transit in Texas
Depends on how you define “quality of life”. If having a large apartment, fancy car, and space are important to you then I’d stay in Texas. If you define quality of life as having access to authentic global cuisine at different price points, being exposed to art on a daily basis, being at one of global cultural centers, loving fashion, having ability to walk everywhere, being surrounded by ambitious and unique people then definitely try out NYC
Perfectly said💙💙

Do what you want! I left for nyc at 22 and lived and learned so much.

My SO and I both work fully remote and live in Manhattan. I absolutely love it and wouldn’t change it for a thing.

If you can afford it, absolutely. The amount of things to do doesn’t begin to compare to anywhere else in the US. So many different people to meet. Try it for a year. What’s the worst that can happen? You don’t like it? Ok. Then you move back to Texas. You’re young. Now is the time to do things like that.
Or travel around the world if you can afford that too. NYC for 1-3 months then on to the next city — I’d go abroad too.
Is living in NYC hard? Yeah, sometimes. Has the city kicked my ass? Sure. Yet moving to NYC was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
No
How much $ do you make? Cost of living drastically different
I’d try it. Living in a walking city away from a lot of people you know teaches you a lot about yourself. If you hate it, give it a year or 2 and go back. I also used to live in Texas and the dating pool is much better here if you’re into career driven people.

Especially if you are single once you hit mid to late 20s in TX. Texans get married a lot younger so by the time I moved here most of my TX based friends were married or living with partners
If you really really want to try living in nyc then yes. But be aware that your quality of life in many of the things you consider basics living in TX will go down drastically in NYC. But if you’re ok trading those for the experience and possibilities of being in NYC then sure give it a shot, your 20s are best time to live there IMO.
I would not but to each their own. But if you’re truly fully remote/flexible, get a short term lease and try it out.
Lol go overseas if u can. Cheaper and you’ll learn more
Instead get a NYC job that allows for remote work as you’ll likely get a NYC salary to go with it and then when you’re over NYC, you can move back to TX with your NYC salary in tow.
I moved to Brooklyn for a few months during the pandemic and I loved it so I decided to move full-time recently! If you can try it for a few months I think that’s a great way to test out if you would like it. But yes, as others have said you give up things like washer-dryer in unit, backyard, space, parking in exchange for amazing restaurants, nightlife, Broadway, concerts, etc.
yes
Ditto
You should find a job in nyc instead
I love living in New York, and personally don’t want to live anywhere else in the near (5 year) future. That said, salary majorly determines quality of life here. I’ve made 85k and lived in Manhattan before, it’s doable but your quality of life is dramatically different than anywhere in Texas on 85k. For me, still worth it. For most people, not worth it

So much complaining over taxes, its such a selfish mindset.
Lol being at the IRS myself , I totally get it when people complain and don’t want to pay taxes. I get it.
I’ve lived in NYC for 5 years now and honestly it’s becoming ratchet. I wouldn’t recommend it anyone right now. Crime has gone up and rent is skyrocketing into new heights
If I could work remote, I wouldn't move to NYC with Elon Musks's money
Manhattan? Nope. Brooklyn / Queens, maybe

Under almost all metrics, your quality of life will probably go down. If you’re a regular person, you’ll probably go from having a 2 bedroom to yourself to having 2 roommates in a 2 bedroom “flex” (living room is someplace one of you actually live in).
