Just work and study like tens of thousands have before you
It doesn’t work for everyone
I took time away from my job, unpaid for about 3 months to knock out the last two tests I had. Best decision ever.
I know other before me worked and studied. Blah blah. So happy for them. I did not want to do that. Leave of absence allowed me to be the mother I wanted to be, study full time, and still maintain a civilized house lol. I did not quit because I wanted a job to come back to. This worked for me and I’m so glad I did this and that my job was accommodating.
Took time off to study as well bc I was already burning out
Lol, that’s what I’m doing now. I’ll let you know in a year!!
I wouldn’t quit my job. If I have to choose one of your options, I’d ask for a sabbatical or a reduced schedule to help me study while I keep my job. Stacking the YOE will help keep your career moving. I wouldn’t put that on hold to study for the CPA. I managed to pass it while working and married with a toddler. I took a ton of PTO in the slowest parts of the year and crammed for about 4 weeks for each section.
I took an unpaid leave to study and pass two exams (2 weeks paid vacation and 6 weeks unpaid leave) and then studied and passed the other two while working full time. Prior to my leave, completing the exams felt insurmountable. So, I liked my approach because it helped me learn the process (studying, scheduling the exam, taking the exam, etc.) and get some momentum by passing two exams.
I am happy with the decision because I avoided the gap in my work experience as no one knows about the sabbatical unless I mention it. I also felt like this approach made studying more reasonable in terms of the workload — most of my studying while working happened on weekend days (about 16 hours each weekend).
You should inquire with your employer. I believe more employers than not would try to accommodate this type of request to keep a good employee who wants to make themselves more valuable to them.
Depends on how much you want to sacrifice family time and other stuff such as time with friends, hobbies, etc. I think either way is fine. You probably already know the answer (know what is best for you) but looking for some assurance). You will be fine either way. Go with your gut feeling, I think.
How about telling your manager that you’re studying for the CPA and asking them for 30-35 hour work weeks?

Take unpaid leave of absence to study and pass exams. It took me a whole year but I also was doing grad school at the same time but not working
