I think you can discuss this with your boss that you want a raise. Just name your number and if you’re good, I’d hope they’d make it happen.
Don’t say “around x or something”. Just say the number.
If they can’t make it happen, just move on - no hard feelings
I think it depends on where in the MM you’re leaving from to gauge how big of an impact it’ll be, but I went to Big four and glad I’m did. Lateraled at the same position but I’m making more, and have have better/more dms from recruiter because of it even though I’ve been here for less time than I spent in MM.
I think if you don’t want to be in FDD for the long haul, moving to big four is worth the name on the resume for exits.
But I think it’s better to stay with current firm and ask for more first, especially if interested in a career in PA for the reasons you mention. Lateral move may set you back - may get more upon transfer but slower upward mobility. I’ve seen with former colleagues (who may not have been the strongest).
For some reason big 4 pays less than MM. KPMG offering 110-120k as senior
If we paid more how would our partners be able to afford new hardwood floors in their Lake / beach houses though…?
Is it worth more hours, harder work and potentially lower pay though?
