It's my experience the tax rules are based on your address, so wherever you told HR your address is then expect to follow those rules.
What are the rules in California?
You would be taxed based on the state where you live, BUT the company may compensate you at a lower "tier" if labor and/or cost of living is cheaper in your area.
Yes you will pay state tax to California since the company is based out of CA. You will be charged non-resident state tax. I dealt with this when my home office was set to CA and I was living in/charging time to TX. It’s unfortunate but CA always finds a way to get its money
Depending on where you live in FL that might not be too bad
Hi! I may be able to help. You should be taxed based on your state of residence… BUT California tax law is…different. If you work at all on site there you have to file taxes with them.
I could be wrong, but I used to travel for work and I was taxed based on the days I worked on site in CA. My state is one that gives tax breaks for taxes paid to another state. So since I worked on site in CA, I filed 3 tax returns. If you don’t work on site, I think you’re fine…. But hopefully an accountant can hop on and confirm???
Realizing this sounds slightly illiterate. Basically I think you’re fine unless you are physically working in CA. But check with a tax expert (HR may or may not be helpful with this)
Interesting, though I would like to have such a kind of problem... smh
I’m extremely jealous of this problem!
You get taxed base in where you work. If you are working from FL, you will get paid and pay taxes based on that.
