120 was good enough for you to take 9 months ago but now you feel it should be 180? Let me guess, you downloaded fishbowl 8 months ago? If you can get it, get it. A shift here and there isn't an issue, though if it's happening every 6-18 months I stay far away from those resumes.
180k in any city isn’t needed for basic essentials, get a grip and a roommate if that’s the case.
You should leave if you want that drastic a salary difference.
That said, what level are you at D? I am assuming Consultant? What I am trying to figure out is that 120k was enough for you to accept a short while ago and then within six months it wasn't and you were already interviewing for 180k? Technical SCs can make 170-180k at Deloitte, especially recently in this market.
He also said TC of 120, something seems off. Seems more like a C at 100 plus AIP
How many years of relevant experience and what tools/ software for data engineering? Also what level
My friend has 4 yoe and a master degree. Her tc is 500k at Netflix in CA.
I don't think there's anything wrong with leaving now, and I don't think staying a few months more will affect your offers. But if you're not getting the salary level you want, you should figure out what the knowledge/experience gaps are and try to remedy them.
180k is totally reasonable
You’re underpaid. I’m at 180 TC with 3 YOE in analytics consulting at big4 + a masters (non-MBA). As a SWE you could EASILY pull 250+TC in a tier 1 city without even trying. Download blind, they will show you the way
That’s the highest SC I’ve heard of D giving. Guess times really are changing lol
How many yoe and what kind of data engineering? I think this will impact tc greatly as 180k for a data engineer is high and implies senior
Jump ASAP. If I stayed at my original consulting firm, I’d still be hovering around $75K.
These firms are willing to pay if you can get the job done and they can market your skills for new contracts. Get an extra cert and put yourself in the market. Good luck!
I’d suggest switch over to one of the other Big 4s (shouldn’t be difficult cz consulting interviews are easier for technical roles than interviews at tech companies). Of course jump only when they’re giving you a good pay bump and then you can come back to D at a higher salary. The point is the market is hot and it doesn’t hurt to keep interviewing, you might get sooner than you think. Also target Amazon’s Data Engineer roles. If you can come in at L5, your TC may get around 150-160k (base + RSU + sign-on)
Thanks for this gave me some hope I’m going to do exactly this
Lot of data engineering hiring happening outside consulting .. even at local clients salaries are about 150k or more if you are hands on data engineering type.
I understand how bad DE projects are structured and way under staffed with mediocre talent now a days. As others suggested also look into faang and other tech unicorns .. many are hiring into remote roles
This is all true I’m leaving D the second I get a better offer these people r hooligans
YoE is important, learn the trade, get experience. Wait till at least the summer.
Bro… unless you have 25 YOE I’d say your ask is unreasonable.
25 YOE?? Whatttt world do you live in SC1!
DM me - happy forward to a colleague who is in real need
You have already made up your mind to start interviewing so what your friends say about staying 12 months does not matter.
Your salary requirements do not matter because you can't even get an offer at this point.
At this point focus on growing your skills enough to actually get job offers. Once you get to that point - figure out what you want salary wise
Everything else on this thread is pure noise
