I know lots of OMM alums in LA. They all speak positively about their time there and keep in touch with partners, even though they worked hard.
Important question: did your firm raise to the DPW scale? I think OMM did. Also, I know people in the LA and DC offices, and all of them seem to love it there.
Yes, my current firm and OMm both raised.
This is great to hear, thank you!
May be instructive to provide office location and group. Seems like OMM has a good culture generally though.
I think it’s a good sign that the partner asked you to go with her. Do you like her and work well with her? Do you know if most of your work at OMM will come from her and what the rest of the group will look like? And do you know who you’ll work with if you stay?
Thanks for asking for information so you can better respond!
I like working with her, know the rest of the group, and know my work will come almost solely from her.
Former OMM associate that left for another firm that also does well on the caul quality of life rankings. OMM is the real deal. It’s hard work, like all of big law, but the firm and partners make a big effort to look out for associates. Hours target is 1950 officially, but generally 1900 will get you to be bonus eligible. That said, if you’re in a busy group you might end up higher than that. Unlimited pro Bono hours are credited toward bonus eligibility; a lot of firms have this but omm takes it seriously (I think I was at like 600 pro Bono hours multiple years and no one said anything). There are a lot of social events (maybe even a few too many if that’s not your thing). People are generally down to earth, cool people (there are some gunner types and a few bad apples among the partners, but far fewer than in most big firms). Vacations are definitely respected and encouraged. They also have great resources if you’re looking to go in house eventually.
They pay market comp and bonuses in all offices as far as I know.
I am an associate there and I enjoy it. Helps that I like my practice group. Seems like you’ll already have one partner you like. Sure it sometimes gets busy, just like any firm. But when I set boundaries, they are respected. I also like that I can reach out to partners if I have an issue, something I’ve successfully done in the past.
Feel free to DM me if you want to discuss further.
Generally, yes. There’s plenty of work to go around but the partners make an effort not to overwork associates. Along those lines, vacation is encouraged and time off is respected. While some weeks can still feel like big law, it is rare to have multiple of those weeks in a row.

What office? Or if you don’t want to answer that - more specifically, SF office?
Anything wrong with the SF office?
Good firm overall. If you can stand the fast pace, you could learn a lot.
