I'm a minor in London desperate for a hospitality job. Since Dec 2024, I’ve applied to 1000+ roles (kitchen porter, team member, even unpaid volunteering) but 90% don’t reply. I had a trial at GAIL’s in July but never heard back. I have no experience but I’m eager to learn. Can anyone check my CV or offer tips/places that hire minors?

So as a minor, you’re probably too young for people to want to hire you. Where I am at, if you’re under 17, you need to do all this extra paperwork and it’s just not worth the effort… maybe try a small mom and pop shop?

Hiya! Thanks — yeah, same where I’m from as well. I’m 17, just turned, and it feels a bit strange thinking it’s my CV, so I’ve been getting it checked. My people wanted to know what you meant by that last bit.

Check the overtime laws for your state!!

I just recently worked 58.6 hours in a week, weekly pay, nice OT profit right? Depends on where you live.

In Iowa, there is no Overtime pay mandate, the overtime pay is at the discretion of the business. I received 58.6 hours of base pay for the week.

If the company makes less than $1 million per year or does not engage in intercontinental sales, the company is not required to pay the overtime rate of time and a half, just your base rate.
