So, I'm facing a bit of a dilemma. The partner at our (small) firm has asked me to lie about something I'm pretty uncomfortable lying about. On the other hand, I'm worried about what will happen to my career here if I don't go along with it -- I definitely haven't been here long enough to have a say in anything.

How many years of experience do you have? Either way you should look to leave. You never want to work for someone who not only lies but forces others to lie. In this instance, is the lie something that could get you in trouble with the bar? If so, definitely don’t.

1are we lying about a client’s tie looking wonderful? Or something material?

If the partner asks for an inch now, it will be a mile later.

Unless the lie is a blatant violation of the ethics rules, I’d probably like for the sake of job security (even if I felt uncomfortable doing it). That’s just me tho - you do you.

like

If lying is against your principles then why give it up for someone just because you are afraid of losing a job with unreliable people to begin with. Your integrity and values mean so much more than your job.
