Bay Area is a specific market. Not really enough good schools supplying tax talent. Very expensive to live in and the firms think the people are willing to take it just for the chance to be in the Bay Area so the pay doesn't line up with the cost of housing. Finally lots of smaller companies needing audit so you are always busy as a result due to the stupid full va tax provisions. Plus all the competition coming from private, of which there's plenty.
Get ready for passive aggressive PPEDs and Sr Mgrs. to your point of always looking for seniors, legitimately every office is the same way.
I transferred NESA tax to Bay Area tax. Bay Area is more passive aggressive, less actual aggressive. Bay Area is more relaxed, but work as much. Turnover seems higher in Bay Area because there are so many interesting start ups popping up every day, and I think that's a great thing. It means you will have plenty of exit opportunities.
I'm sure that you won't have trouble getting hired, people are always looking for more Sr's out here. Never worked in NE so I can't give much of a comparison for you. EY has the largest market share (by far) in the area in terms of audit and so you will probably be working on some bigger names.
I've also noticed that EY is always looking for staff/senior/managers in Bay Area for tax. Why do you think that is? Lots of turn over? If so, that kind of worries me about the office.
It's good and bad I guess it depends on what you are looking for. There is turnover but There is a lot of growth for both audit and tax which means you need more people. It also means that there are a lot of jobs that are good enough to pull people away from PA.
