Please evaluate this initial offer for Apple ICT3. I think I was low balled, but I want to take more opinions. Currently Sr. MTS at VMware, received Apple ICT3. I was expecting to get to ICT4 but seems like team thinks upper end of ICT3 is more apt. Also, I think it is because I don’t have any counter offers yet.

I’ve done it. Radical candor. Just say that there seems to be this idea in our business that you’re supposed to want to climb to the top of the proverbial ladder. But you’ve found the rung where you have the most to offer. Make it not about what you don’t want, and instead how staying at that level benefits them.
You can also talk about the things you still want to accomplish at your level without saying “this is as far as I want to go”. Your ambitions may evolve.
If I were your manager I would LOVE to know this. It’s so helpful to understand where you want to be right now. Plus, I’m sure you want to continue elevating your comp, so having good goals you can meet is still super important.
I personally wouldn’t bring this up until a promotion is real and on the table. I would stress over how they heard what I said way too much to outweigh anything else. And what if in a year you feel differently but are passed up? So now you need another chat to clear things up which could look indecisive. Also you never know how higher ups will interpret this as well which could lead to less opps. Stay the course, exceed expectations and address it when it’s real would be my advice.
Say nothing until a promotion is on the table.
Out of curiosity, why would you not be open to advancement?
There are other goals than promotion. You want to become more cross-functional in X area, increase client revenue on Y projects, work on talent development initiatives for juniors …. All things any boss should be thrilled to hear. Sometimes, we find ourselves exactly where we are supposed to be at that time, but don’t ever shut the door on opportunity. Because you never know.
