I have been given a verbal offer of 145k base for a Sr. Associate role as Data Analytics Lead. The offer doesn’t come with any kind of bonuses or stocks.
I have a Masters and 5+ years of exp and my current comp is 115.5k + approx 5k bonus + ~20k in stocks (yearly refreshes) which makes my total current comp to 140k.
Is it worth taking the offer for increase in just the base?
What are my chances of negotiating into a VP level role with at-least 155k?

It never hurts to ask for what you want. The best strategy to win a higher salary is to wait for the offer. Respond with a counter offer with your salary request highlighting your skills but most importantly provide support evidence. This maybe other job postings that list the salary and salary info from Glassdoor.
No one will give it to you if you don’t ask for it.
Thank you! I just don’t want to come off demanding or arrogant and lose the offer, but I also don’t want to be taken for a fool.
The industry combined with no real UX experience is likely why it’s on the lower end. To maximize your comp you can target tech companies, but my honest opinion is that you should take any role that gets you experience and then focus on 2-3x your comp in the next few years.
Even if you stayed at this company for the next year, your background will set you up to easily 2x your salary.
Real experience is very important for those mid-senior level roles. Your background will set you up nicely, I would start looking after you’ve hit the 1 year mark.
Best of luck!
That is rather low for a Ux role and your research backs that up. If you’re job description is focused on Ux skills I would see if they are willing to explore a higher salary? You may not have tons of Ux professional experience, but as a junior you are still bringing a wealth of value to your role with your visual design background. Never undersell yourself and good luck!
Thanks! Yeah that’s what I keep getting told that’s it’s too low but I guess I don’t know what wording to use to show my competence without rubbing someone the wrong way. Thank you I will negotiate and hope for the best. If not I’ll take it regardless cause I know the job market right now is tough.
