I have. My white woman boss cried and said I was attacking her and she didn’t want to talk to me anymore. I called her out on it and told her how behavior was unacceptable as a leader. That I would never get the opportunity as a woman of color and as her employee to “run away because I’m uncomfortable/upset.” She calmed down and actually started listening to me. Later that week she sent me an email thanking me for being bold enough to speak up and stated that she had been doing research and found some articles entitled “how white women’s tears oppress minority voices” and “how white women strategically use their tears to avoid accountability.” She read it, processed it and was embarrassed that she was textbook this and wanted desperately to be better. We have had amazing conversations since then. We will see if it’s sincere, but I am hopeful that she just needed to have her eyes opened...and I don’t know if I would have been bold enough to call her out previously.
I tried to but the managers on my team are racist so they claimed I attacked them, when I voiced that someone making a joke about black lives matter is problematic I was yelled at. Honestly thinking of quitting the industry but I need the money. My life sucks and I need to leave this industry and NYC.
I’m told I’m a great employee but no matter how hard I try I won’t make it in advertising because I’m not a cute white girl.
Whoever is laugh reacting to these kind of posts really needs to slap themselves in the face. Insensitive af
No because these conversations end in me having to console them and I do not have the patience.
Fuck them. You’re enough, there is a spot somewhere for you and you’ll thrive there.
Just keep grinding ✊🏾
Yes I know. But now is the time to do it, they are being forced to listen whether they want to or not. If you document and report it, they have to do respond.
@OP, would you mind sharing examples of micro-aggressions you'd raise with your manager if you knew he/she would be an ally?
Understand if your response is "yeah, I would mind" for any number of reasons.

I’ve had several conversations with my Black direct reports. Some productive and good, some not.
At the end of the day it’s a difficult and charged topic to discuss. I’m glad we are though.

Demands for things I simply don’t have the power to do or were just incoherent, followed by accusations that I am personally part of the problem (I am a POC, if that context is helpful).
