I’m getting paid a little more than $8/hr (no benefits but still FT work) and my boyfriend called me a wage cuck. He’s not wrong but it’s my only way of getting “experience” so I can get a job that will actually allow me to move out. 2 years of experience so far. Is this normal? Should I just quit my dreams of working in the ad industry and work at best buy ($15/hr) I have a degree. (lol)

Anyone who unironically uses the word cuck in any form absolutely has misogyny issues. I’d find a higher paying job and a new boyfriend.

You should definitely quit your boyfriend who belittles you and what you’re trying to achieve. You can always work at Best Buy later if you want. As long as you’re able to support yourself, you should chase down the career you’re interested in.

🤔🤔 there was another post about getting $4 an hour. What’s up here?? Also quit both, know, believe and live your worth!!

i think your boyfriend’s heart is in the right place. he doesn’t want you to be abused and paid less than you’re worth. he should stop using the word “cuck” though... however, $8/hour isn’t acceptable in any situation ever! that being said, you may very well need the experience and there’s nothing you can do to change the min. wage laws/your employers ethics right now. do what you gotta do for now, and let your boyfriend know you know it’s wrong and you deserve more but it’s all you can get right now and eventually you’ll be making a lot more because of this job. blame the economy, not the unwilling participant!

Employers ethics? No ones holding a gun to her head to stay in this job

You already have two years of experience, what are you waiting for? I did something similar and started applying to new roles at the six month mark.

Before we jump all over the boyfriend, if he isn't in the ad world, it is hard for those folks to understand why any of us would spend so many hours to make so little money. The worst arguments my husband and I ever had was when I first started working in advertising and had to sit around waiting for what he thought was no reason. He made a lot more than me, but worked less hours. Fast forward 15 years, I make a lot more money than him, work similar amount of hours. As for OP rate of $8/hr, not sure how that's happening. Are you saying you are averaging 70 hrs a week, for 2 years! That is outrageous, even in the ad industry.

like

I want to crawl thru the screen and slap your bf and your abusive manager! A supportive partner helps you understand your worth and frame alternate opportunities where you can be valued by others. Calling you a wage cuck ain’t it Are you saying your hourly rate is truly 8/hr, or your effective rate is 8/hr because you’re overburned and not qualifying for OT? In both of those cases I would absolutely start interviewing at other agencies and ONLY look at places with benefits. 2 years of experience is plenty to jump!

Contract position monthly averages to $8/hr with 40 hrs of work. (Hence the no benefits)

Your boyfriend’s an ass if he’s just putting you down like, unless he means for it as a way to get you to look for something better. You should definitely keep looking though, $8/h is tough. Sometimes internships may also pay more than contract positions. Hang in there!!

He’s trying to be the person who will tell me when something is wrong when no one else is. Trying to say im worth more than $8 but failing~

Is your role in media or creative? if it’s in media, you should definitely look around at hopping companies — you can get a significant pay bump by moving agencies

How do you respond to co workers asking for your help while you are on maternity leave? It’s regarding project work that you transitioned over. My maternity leave is also unpaid.

Fishies, I need your help. I received an offer for $160k from guidehouse. I’m currently paid $133k at EY. I don’t particularly love my practice as it is testing and the new practice with guidehouse would be IT strategy. EY has gotten me comfortable with the reimbursement for fitness, phone and internet and the promises from Kelly Grier of “really good bonuses and raises” this year. What would you do?

Anyone know of any healthcare startups in Jacksonville FL?

Is anyone using 'Pension Bee' or something similar? I've got 3 pensions now and will be starting my 4th with my new job in September... (The first was for an internship 😂, the next is my biggest from 5 years of working and then just 1 year in my most recent job) I don't know if moving these 3 over to Pension b Bee is best or what else I could do... So any comments on this will be super helpful!

A wonderful friend recommended me to a recruiter, when the recruiter was looking to place a creative. This role is at a small agency, I’m going to be paired with a Sr. Copywriter.
