Hi Fishes
I would like to know about the client interviews (especially in data science or machine learning roles).
Are these interviews tough?
Are these interviews meant to assess technical knowledge? For example, what is binomial distribution, what are different data structures in python, ml algorithms etc.
I would request each of the nagarrians to share their thoughts irrespective of the technologies you are working.
I am thankful to you for taking time and helping me out.

Yes, be open with them about your desire to move into creative, and introduce yourself to creative directors there.
I started at my agency as a proofreader, wanting to become a writer. As you can imagine, being a word person means I’m not natural at being extroverted / advocating for myself. But I pushed through, and a CD gave me little projects here and there. I was going to portfolio school on the side, and eventually there was an opening.
It took about a year and a half, but eventually they hired me as a Jr! It can be done.
I have a very similar story, except I didn’t go to portfolio school. I asked to take on writing projects and they usually just gave me the boring stuff or the overflow projects, but I did both jobs for years and they never officially hired me as a writer (why would they, I guess. A whole free full time copywriter isn’t a resource to be wasted). But by the time I left I had a pretty hefty albeit boring portfolio. I don’t recommend letting an agency dick you around for years on end like that, but it’s a good way to get a portfolio without going to portfolio school.

You were hired for a specific role so that’s obviously your 1st priority. As long as you’re fulfilling that obligation, you shouldn’t have any problem asking CDs if they could throw you assignments to do on your own personal time.
That’s how I got started. They threw me projects that other creatives deemed “below them 🙄” and didn’t want. I wound up producing those and it just steamrolled from there. Congrats on the new job and good luck! 👍
Thank you! Great advice :)
I started as an HR coordinator. What C1 said - be proactive and after you get the lay of the land of the agency, don’t be nervous to approach someone and let it be known what you want to do.
Also see if you can make friends with a couple of ADs and shadow them. That’s what I did with producers and it was incredibly helpful to get an understanding of the actual day-to-day and job responsibilities.
Thank you, super helpful to know! I wasn’t sure if they would be upset if I let them know my goals to be a creative.
