I’m interested in doing fractional GC work on the side and have some relationships to get started. I have a stable full time position that is OK with this arrangement.

How much are attorneys charging in a fractional GC model? Are you asking for minimum commitments on a monthly basis that provides for X hours, with overages thereafter?

Have 6 years of experience in big law doing emerging company / VC / corporate work plus 2 years in-house and I’m based in NY.

I’m at $600/hr this year (class of 2013) but have clients at $375, $400, and $500 depending on when/where they started and their size. I also have a client who pays $10k/mo for general coverage and is very reasonable about workload. I started at $100/hr in 2019ish as an experiment, and that was not worth getting out of bed for and people basically just abused me with all sorts of nonsense. It led to some opportunities but that was a rough year.

I don’t ask for minimums or retainers etc. Most new client business is tiny startups that really can’t afford it. In fact, I usually have a handful of projects on 12-month fee deferrals while they raise and grow a bit. No one has burned me yet.

I actually need a good independent ecvc/corporate person in my Rolodex to do more complex transactions - god help me I agreed to do a JV last month that I initially refused to work on and it nearly killed me.

Run the term “fractional” through the Big Law and Law bowls to see past posts. You could direct message some of the folks who have posted about doing this work.

I’m able to do this on the side as well. Have 8-10 small startup clients and charge a range of $300-500/hr.

How did you come into it? My path was pretty weird/circumstantial

As a big law attorney who works with fractional GCs, I think it’s great. Your rates seem reasonable!

DO YOU JUST ASSUME THE COST OF YOUR MARKETING ACTIVITIES? I am looking to allocate their cost in the marketing budget in a way that won't rely on several layers of assumptions. How do you reliably estimate the cost of different marketing activities (email, social, web, etc) when you don't have specific people or tools allocated to each function and costs are spread across many channels? Ads seems the easiest, but even then there's time and overheads... I've been looking for a reliable model.

Hi new here. Idk what my value is and if I’m getting paid an amount that reflects my hard work. I am a paralegal for a small law firm (family and immigration) w only 1 attorney. I have about 20 files or more in my rotation at a time. I work on various types of cases at once. Some are simple, others are extensive. I feel like it’s very unstructured and one of the managers micromanages. It’s like every man for himself. Take home pay is $50k. I am working on my bachelors deg. Do I get paid enough?

How do firms calculate how much parental leave to provide, either paid or unpaid. Or do they just pick a number, like “yeah they can get to know their kid in a few weeks and I couldn’t possibly have that attorney out for 12 weeks?” I’m at a small firm, no FMLA or state requirement. We get four weeks paid and four weeks unpaid. Would like to push for more but not sure how to argue costs side of it.
