I’m looking to change firms and I’m wondering is Big 4 as horrid as people say it is? What have been your experiences working in big 4?

No B4 experience here but CRZ isn’t bad with the hours. Our office tells you a 55 billable requirement in tax season - it’s usually around that depending into the week. Higher if you don’t charge time appropriately or don’t feel comfortable speaking up when overloaded with work. If you care to hear any more I would be happy to chat.

My experience is pretty positive. I’ve never hit my utilization for the year, never gotten in trouble for it. I have a few weeks over 55 around the deadlines. Like 60-75. But it’s only a few weeks, and it’s offset by slow periods where I bill less than 10 hrs / week, and take a ton of PTO

like

What firm are you currently at and what are yours hours currently look like? Big four at most offices will be 70+ hours in busy season.

Tbh I’ve hit 60ish within 4 days at B4 before. Sounds like a dream spread out over the week

Yes, it’s about as bad as they say. Some groups are better than others, but generally it’s bad.

Why do you want to go to CBIZ to big 4?

Busy season is bad . 70 hrs each week or even more .

Discussion post: I feel almost all consulting firms are the same. Mbb, big 4 etc. if you are paid enough there is probably less wlb. If there is good wlb there is not much money. Can you single out a company that you can confidently say pays very well and also has good wlb and also has good opportunities etc.?

It’s hard to trust the partners/leadership when they want us to return to office as being better when we increase offshoring? Also, the pressure on billable hours when all that really matters is how much our fixed labor costs vs. how much we can bill (which is usually fixed fee or at least a range) and the fixed labor costs of offshoring is significantly cheaper so the hours don’t matter. Am I mistaken by this viewpoint?
