This feels sketch. I agree with the previous comment to CYA. My law firm has a VERY strict policy of new grads being referred to as such - even in internal conversations between colleagues and even to the point where we have to go back and redo HR documentation post-admittance. New grads do paralegal work and bill at paralegal rates, even if their salary and hours reflect that of an attorney. The only "exceptions" are when we bill at a specialized rate (municipal law, flat fee, negotiated rate) - and those effect the entire team, including PL rates, not just new grads.
BTW - wishing you well with the Bar! Congrats on all you've accomplished already!
Also, if this firm is already having you do something that you’re not comfortable with, maybe consider looking elsewhere. When you’re starting out, you want to learn how to do things the right way
CYA. Make sure you have the email where they expressed this policy, take a photo of it, print a copy and take it home, etc. It very well may be the case. I'm in government and we have a firm that does a couple specific things and they have one billable rate, that's it. So they all bill to our rate which is marked as the partners rate
If it takes them the same amount of time to review your work before it goes out, then it’s not bad.
But if they aren’t spending any time on it, that’s fraud for sure. You should be worried about reporting to the local bar association first… then worry about the bar examiners second.
