Yes! Absolutely. 2015 isn’t even that old. But I would also talk about a more recent one too.
Or girl :)
Thank you @freelance! I am creatively proud of it. The work they sent out before I took it over was half-hearted and boring.. I brought in a whole new style, humor, insightful thinking, and revamped art direction to it and that's why they're doing so well. It's actually become the one regular piece of creative presentation that my colleagues, my boss, and the clients really look forward to. They get excited to hear about 'this month's email'. I was worried about mentioning it because of what CD1 said - don't wanna be the 'email person'.
CD1, OP said they're really proud of it so I didn't get the impression that they're sharing it only for the results. I think you might be projecting a bit of the creative bias against email as a "boring" tactic but I think at CD level it's important to keep in perspective we're a business solutions industry, not so much "art" industry. I know you know. Making a general comment here as that's super important for the creative team to be able to execute against. I'd greatly welcome creatives with a non jaded business sense that are proud of their work's business results for the client. That kind of maturity is rare.
I’m still milking work from 99!
I talked about work I did during Obama’s first term in my last interview.
Thanks, CD1!
One more small thing - a produced piece I'm rather proud of involves refurbishment of a brand's email communication. Small piece of the client's work but it led to nearly a 200% increase in visits, downloads, and usage of their product. Is it okay to talk about a really good / effective small project over an okay but bigger budget print/film creative?
I wouldn’t talk about anything you’re not proud of, period. And unless you are applying for a “direct” job, I definitely wouldn’t bring up the email campaign. Not because it wasn’t a success, but because people might mistake the reason you’re bringing it up for the fact that you are creatively proud of it. You don’t want to leave that interview with them thinking “he’s the email guy"
Oh, I see OP already clarified in a post while I was typing mine
What if the piece in question that I'm most proud of (and got press and awards) is a spec piece?
Still good. At your level, we just want to know how you think and what your tastes are. Again, supplement it with examples of something that got produced
OP - the results of that email comm is amazing effectiveness. You should definitely talk about it and how you can bring that thinking to the current role you’re interviewing for. GL!!
Yeah I take back what I said. It depends on what the campaign is. But I still would only show it if it shows off your ability to concept and write in the process.
Yes it's fine Year doesn't matter as long as it's a great project
account director, I agree. Which was why I posted my revision. I do think it’s important to keep in mind that there is a bias against emails. And I won’t be the CD reviewing OPs book. So advice given on this thread should be issued under the assumption of what the average CD might think
Thanks CD1 - I had a feeling there was a bias. Ah well!
