Actually, don't sweat it. Means many things but most importantly that you shouldn't sweat it. I got rejected by Accenture, bcg and Alix but accepted at McKinsey and now up for partner in 2 years. You must always keep your head above the water to be able to define where you want to go and how to get there. You are very capable and worth it. Try again!
Also, you may be a top consultant, but the work done at BCG may require a different type of consulting skill set?
I was formerly Deloitte S&O, and when I talk to Googlers at MBB, it’s clear that there’s a difference in type of project work done too, even if I was in the Monitor Strategy practice. Don’t sell yourself short!
Had the same feeling after my rejection. It was for a different role but felt really down. It happens to the best of us. Went and got myself a great workout. You already have a job at a pretty good firm. Most people don’t even get an interview. A lot of great people get rejected by many companies and then go on to achieve greater things in life. Don’t let this hinder your progress, just work harder and excel in your current role. Everything in life happens for a reason. Interviews are subjective at times, even when you give your best there might have been someone who happened to perform better/they just didn’t like you for reasons that you can’t comprehend. In my case I barely have 2 years of experience and yet I got an interview, made it past the first round, even got good feedback, just made some minor mistakes for a hard question. Ask for feedback and get back stronger next year. BCG is just another company, if you are really great at what you do, you will excel in any organization. Don’t let someone else prove your worth woman/man. All the best!
I would only be down if interviewing was a consistent repeatable process that produced consistent repeatable outcomes - it’s none of those things.
I got rejected by BCG a few years ago - because I wasn’t prepared and thought I could wing it and still make it. Round 1 was the end. I then got an offer from Deloitte and started working here, making myself better and mature. I just recently applied to BCG again and was working hard to prepare and be prepared for the interviews. This time it worked. So the point is not that you will get it in a few years but if you still want it after some time, make sure you prepare and use the learnings from this attempt. Maybe you also find out that BCG and consulting are over for you in a year and you want to go into industry. Even then: take the learnings from this “failure” and work on yourself. Godspeed
