Taxi cab passengers bill of rights. He's trying to scam you. You can and will pay with a card. DO NOT GIVE IN.
Happened to me before, I told him that I did not have cash, we were in a stand still for 30 minutes arguing, I did not give in, refused to go to and ATM and get cash. In the end I threatened to call TLC and all of a sudden he was able to accept credit card and enter the fare on the meter...
New Yorkers have been dealing with this bullshit for years, hence the overwhelming support for uber and other rideshare apps. Yellow cabs are a victim of their own legislated monopoly. It sucks for those stuck holding $1mil medallions and the credit unions that lent to them, but good riddance.
And this is why people use Uber's!
Also, it's a flat fare to any location
Threaten to call TLC, take pictures of his registration and call it in. They can call a central hotline to run your card.
They just want to make it seem like you can only pay cash
Don't give-in. Flat rate should be ~60 or so...it is on door. All cabs in NYC are required to take CC and must have a working meter. If he doesn't have a working meter, he shouldn't be working. A simple 311 or TLC (taxi and limousine commission) will solve the issue.
It's been awhile since I've had that problem but I've had them call it into base to run it if the can't restart it or run it on one of those old fashion machines. Remind him it's in the tenant bill of rights that you are able to use credit cards.
He's scamming. It happened to me. I told him I have no cash. He noted down the number and charged later. They can note down the number and do that. Just make sure there aren't other charges from Amazon hahaha
See if the meter comes back up at the end of the ride. They should restart themselves and connect
Yeah should be a flat fare. Google it and say you refuse to pay anything above the flat fare or what the meter says.
The fare is probably on the door too...
Ditto P2 same experience do not give in eventually he will
Isn't there a city number in NYC for BS like this? Like 3-1-1 or something? Call them and report the bastard.
I just don't get how he asked me halfway through the ride if I had cash?!?!?!?? Wtf
Just say you don't have cash. And tell him that you can only pay by card
Tell him thanks for the free ride if he doesn't accept credit
Then don't tip him
Say I don't have cash now what
