Sometimes they want to give you the opportunity to meet peers or people you would work with directly to give you more opportunities to ask Qs. Also could be designed to pander to some partner egos—some feel like hires shouldn’t happen without their say on the matter, even if they don’t actually wield as much influence as they think. They’re not wasting 4.5+2 hours of billable time unless they’re serious about hiring you. Own the interview. Good luck!
Same for me - 3d round added for partners who missed second round, offered the next day.

Sounds like the partner needs to weigh in, but it's a little strange to just have you come in for one interview so....
I have had this done to me before. Usually it is a good sign bc they want to see if people you will be working with think you are also a good personality fit for team.
Thanks everyone.

It’s good for you, honestly. ReBuilding your reputation as a lateral is difficult. The more people who have a sense who you are before you start the better. Them fighting over your time gives you the flexibility to pick and choose what you want to work on.
Very similar to my experience FLC - I lateraled to a smaller firm but also a smaller group that has partners who want to be more involved in everyyyything and there is so much more scrutiny. It feels heavily micromanaged and my opinion isn’t as valued and the processes just often seem impractical. Sounds like it’s harder adjustment for me than it was for you and I’m glad you made it work for yourself! Need to do some retraining to adjust on my end for sure, but it often feels like it doesn’t jive with my personality. The things that were valued most at my old firm (my opinion and ability to run with things) are the things it sounds like my team doesn’t like which is also hard.
OP - try to ask those questions about how much autonomy and responsibility you would get if that’s important to you. How matters are staffed. What role they see for you given your experience. Level of oversight. If they don’t like those questions, then you may see it’s not the right fit for you.
It’s likely just an opportunity for you to meet more people you’ll be working with. At this point, if they didn’t want you, they wouldn’t waste anymore time that attorneys could be billing.
