Alvarez & Marsal Interviewing for an M role in M&A Alvarez & Marsal. Recruiter said base might fall between $225K and $250K. I’ve only ever worked at Big4 firms or in the industry. What would bonus look like? And how long might one take to go from M to D? Currently, M at Deloitte with 12 YOE (industry + consulting). Expect to make SM in 2023. Want to make sure giving up my network at D is worth it.

To clarify, I was trying to say that I have a strong network at Deloitte and so I think I have a good chance of making SM.
I’m definitely all about the money. No doubts there. Just want to know how much money if I make this move. The base itself isn’t life changing. At least it doesn’t justify a lateral move.
Your base will be 225k ? That’s not possible at A&M. The TC is bonus heavy.
Both PEPI and CPI have M&A groups.
That’s incorrect base. She’s mistaken. Expect 150k base.

Good thing is that your TC can be way more than 225k ! Something to consider.
TC: Capture rate hourly rate * hourly billing rate * 2040 * utilization % - base salary
Capture rate: Neighborhood of 20% depending on practice
Utilization: May be lower than Deloitte - make the bear case ~60% here
Billing rate: not sure what M is, associate/sr assoc are ~$450

My buddy is interviewing for a Director (M) role and the base they told him was much lower.
You’ll probably work more at A&M as compared to Deloitte. Getting paid for it makes up for the extra hours.
Can someone please confirm the exact hierarchy of grades at A&M? Is it Analyst, Associate, Senior Associate, Director, Senior Director and MD?
That’s correct, some business units have an additional level of Manager in between SA and M
