How does he see the market dynamics changing his business or product? How does that translate to your specific role? How does he see the growth changing over the next 24/36 months. How does he engage with his board and leadership team. Gives you a few glimpses into his leadership style that will drive company culture.
Where do you see the company in 5 years? How does the role I’m interviewing for help you achieve/accelerate the realization of that vision?
In your mind, what’s the difference between a good performer and exceptional performer in this role?
Treat it like a commercial diligence. Who buys the product, who else sells the (or substitutable...) product, what’s the market and how fast is it growing? Then, understand how the business is positioned in the market, where it’s going, what makes it special. Once you know all of this, you’ll be ready to ask sensible and provoking questions.
Answer this question for yourself too. That may be the best answer you get.
