Yes if from a top 25 program globally. Unsure how popular local MBA programs (ie. MBS) are with locals, keen to hear from others
Like a standard consulting answer, it depends.
It was very worth it for me. I went to a top global MBA, and it allowed me to pivot out of consulting and get a job in Australia with a non-business uni degree when my Aussie husband wanted us to live here. I also have a great network to leverage if we decide to move elsewhere one day.
But based on my experience in Australia, you don’t need an MBA here. My boss was a consulting manager and leads strategy without an MBA. The other person on my strategy team is a former consultant without an MBA. Consulting experience, especially MBB, seems to be the main currency here. And MBA programs like MBS and UNSW AGSM mostly help you crack into consulting. So if you have consulting experience and are looking for non-consulting, connect with strategy recruiters and make the jump without an MBA. It’s a really hot market right now without the inflows of imported strategy talent.
A top international MBA, yes. But local programs, no.
You may get a network out of it. Depending on where you are in your journey - if you get into T2/T1 post mba salary is like 165-200k. Senior manager roles at banks seem to pay 150k-180k but typically see people exiting consulting at manager level anyway and transition into those roles. Unfortunately I can’t see the numbers working for the salary bump, opportunity cost of salary, a year of living expenses, mba fees, risk of not getting one of the top jobs for like 5-10year payback. But if you can afford it/get a scholarship or keen to do a startup it could be a good move
