I would not leave Slalom for Cognizant. Cognizant tends to hire and pay well- but has high turnover because leadership is terrible and the company is in total disarray. Company culture is a struggle between those home grown in India and the expensive US based resources they keep hiring at much higher rates (while telling those in India why pay raises can’t happen).
There are better Salesforce practices.
It has and there isn’t a great path to change with the current situation. Look at bigger/better practices where you will learn more and have better opportunities.
Cognizant will sell you a great story but it’s not the work or team you want.
Chief
Wouldn’t go there from Slalom. How’s the pay look?
Offer is 140k base
Generally, you want to stay away from WITCH companies
Cognizant will be a step down even if you are Indian. Also 140 K isn’t that much , I accepted an offer from slalom with 144 base as a consultant and this was 5 years back. Check with your practice directors if money is the only reason you are looking for a change.
I have worked at M- level (Tech Architect) in cognizant North America as well(it’s a different entity than cognizant India and you are paid more than the people who come on deputation from India) but the culture is pretty much driven by Indian teams and their deputes here. The work was also not challenging and there are few smart people who run at the first available opportunity. The logical move from slalom should be the big 4 or MBB WITCH companies are definitely a step down.
Senior Consultant was a level below M in technology solutions and at M level in management consulting.
MBB stands for McKinsey , Bain and BCG. WITCH is for the Indian tech companies > Wipro , Infosys, TCS, Cognizant and HCL
I don’t have direct experience at Cognizant, but I left Slalom for a Wipro company. That lasted less than a year before I came right back. Wipro and Cognizant are similar in culture from what I’ve heard, and let me tell you—it wasn’t good. Especially coming from Slalom. We have our flaws, but theirs were worse.
Glad to know you had/have a great team and you were able to do that.
Don’t make that mistake. So much incompetence and not a lot of growth. People don’t stay for long unless they are on h1bs
Are you Indian?
Cognizant and some similar firms have a reputation for excluding non-Indian people from advancement opportunities, or generally integrating non-Indian people into the firm/culture.
This is irrelevant if you are an Indian person pursuing a cognizant role in India. This is worth investigating if you are not Indian and pursuing a role outside of India.
When did Salesforce consulting become management consulting
Lol no, not at all. SF is tech implementation
I think the money and title would have to be really compelling- the witch companies are a significant step down in your resume - the assumption is you're just doing cheap outsourcing, regardless of your actual role - but if the opportunity is significant, it might be worth it as a stepping stone to more impactful roles at other firms in two to three years.
