Is it a good idea to pursue a career change now in December, or better wait till January since it's getting to the slow hiring period now?

Pursue now but expect to move next year

A few years ago I accepted my offer mid- December and they have me start after the new year. I assume a lot of places are like that especially with the holiday time off etc

In the same boat. Job market seems pretty dry right now (in my field atleast of cyber strategy/risk). Doesn’t look like many places are hiring at the moment.

To answer your question, start applying now where you can. Continue into next year. There’s almost zero chance you’re getting a new job by the new year. The process takes too long and it’s the holidays.

I’ve been trying to do a career change into cyber consulting (associate positions) since October 19th but I haven’t seen many associate positions open. It doesn’t hurt to start trying now since it seems like it takes awhile. Plus you will still have income while looking for opportunities

Any attorneys in the Bay Area practicing just in estate planning (not litigation), can you give your take on whether you would get enough business to do only planning? I'm currently doing family law and I want to start moving away from litigation. For family law there really isn't a non litigation role that produces enough business (i.e. mediation). I do okay, but definitely have to take on more litigation than I prefer. I was thinking estate planning might be a good addition to the mix.

M/SM and above, why do you label a meeting as “touch point” or ask if you can have a “quick chat” when it’s something serious? Millennials like us always assume we’re about to get fired - I actually have been laid off in a meeting with that title. But at my new job, my boss asked for a “quick chat” to literally ask me to change the title of a meeting and then chat about christmas. Now that I’m in management, I want to understand it better.
