About to head to the HC for a role in ProdOps and Strategy in Mountain View. 4 YoE at MBB, no competing offers. Recruiter gave me a form that asks expected comp.
Levels.fyi has only PM salaries. I haven’t been told the level but expect it to be L4.
What total comp would you expect for this role? Any advice would be super helpful, as I’m a bit lost.

Congrats on being a normal human being and not one of these losers who lives to work. You hear that, people that live to work? You’re losers. All of you. Keep being awesome OP.
Stick to your guns OP. I wish I had, especially in my younger days. I cancelled dates, vacations and worked endless hours. As a reward, I received more work. I grew to hate the industry. An accountant likes numbers, vets like animals, creatives like art/copy. But for some reason our field is one where success requires complete immersion in a lifestyle where we “live to create.” Working medical resident hours to boost car sales is not passion, it’s insanity. These days I get through the day and enjoy it 25% of the time. The rest is in gods hands. Funny thing is, nobody notices now and they didn’t notice when I was 25. Seems like you know what’s important. Best of luck.
That’s just the capitalism talking. Your family and your happiness supersedes everything else. You’re lucky to have them.
They're just ads... 99% of people will forget about within minutes.
I worked for a small agency 2 years ago that never gave out laptops so you're technically chained to you desk 12-13 hours a day. I missed many milestones with my young kids. I vow to never put myself in to this kind of predicament again
Not bad at all! When you are older, you will appreciate the moments that you lived life and you will wish you had more of them!
You need to set boundaries at work. Don’t stay anywhere that doesn’t respect balance. Easier to do In House than at an agency but I do hear agencies are struggling to retain and hire talent. I wasted a good chunk of my life working too much at agencies. One of my great regrets.
CD2 where are you now?
I mean, a 9-5 is GOALS honestly

Is there a reason for feeling this way? Does your team work longer?

The fact that you feel guilty for working normal hours is proof of how abusive this industry is… especially in the US.
Enjoy it. Lord knows agencies don’t feel a so much as a tinge of guilt about anything.
He who dies with the most Gold Lions is still dead
I feel your sentiment. I worry that I will never be able to find that in this industry. Hoping we both find the perfect place for us ❤️
Well I’d love to get there someday rn it looks more like 11-12h days which is super chill though especially being young and new I love the experience gain
“11-12hr days which is super chill”…
Are you being sarcastic? Please tell us you’re being sarcastic.
Nope. Sounds like you have your priorities aligned.
Maybe in-house or working on a huge account that is super stable (like a bank, or pharma?) would be in line with your goals. Do not feel bad at all. But don’t expect D5, W+K, or one of the coolest shops like Mischief to hire you. Ain’t nuthin wrong with prioritizing life over the ad racket.

Should you feel bad? Absolutely not.
But you should be clear-eyed about what you want from your career, and set your expectations accordingly.

I understand where you’re coming from, and I think the impulse to question the primacy of work is a healthy one.
That said, it’s still the case that, all things being equal, people who put in more effort are going to gain skills and experience faster, advance more quickly, and accrue more rewards. Even with cultural pressure in favor of greater work-life balance, I think this reality is unlikely to change—not because of the “mindset”, but because there is a relationship between inputs and outputs.
Not at all. Your a normal human. Ever since getting totally burned out and having a crisis of self before going freelance. I have definitely been places that everyone is basically logged off at 5 or 6 and the work is just as good (or not good) at places that guilt people into being there until late a working weekends. Honestly, try going in house at a tech place and you’ll find that balance and maybe even a place that is doing good work.
I get really sad when read a post like this. Because it only shows how deeply ingrained in our culture the hustle mentality actually is. We were raised learning that the only way to achieve success is through hard work, giving up precious moments and dedicating your entire life to that. Rewarding the ones who gave up their lives to work is the biggest problem of our society. Time to reward the ones who actually know how to live. If I could, I’d give you a medal and a raise. Btw, good job!
Balance focused hard work in reasonable chunks of time with the rest of your life. You’ll do fine. Don’t fall into the trap that longer hours equals awards.
It's not bad, but there will always be someone that will work those hours to get ahead.
Tell me more about this concept called “9 to 5…”
