Is it crazy to ask a partner about an open in-house position of a client? The partner recently told me the client is hiring to replace an in-house that left. The client didn’t him to recommend anyone or anything. However, I’m interested in going in-house for this client. I’ve already worked with the in-house that left and know some of the stuff that I, as a replacement, would likely cover. Would it be harmful to my career to ask him if he would recommend me for that position?

Is it just me or are there entirely too many people in Business Services, specifically TC’s, who are just folks from client service that don’t want to deal with hours and travel anymore but have no formal training in the Business Services function they transition to? It seems to me very few TC’s are professionals in HR with any background, training or certifications in HR.
