My MD calls me out all the time for wearing expensive watches and shoes since he came from a humble background. I simply don’t care except I actually give him advise on how to dress better and enjoy life. Funny thing is he just got a YM through an AD I know. So I guess just be confident and be yourself.
Who cares what others think. If I saw an associate wear a nice watch I would appreciate it and think this person is into watches. However if it’s Rolex I would assume this person is a follower and knows nothing about watches. I appreciate it more when someone is wearing a non- Rolex. If it’s an AP or Patek or VC I would think either he/she is well to do but who cares.
I have had nice time pieces since I was a senior consultant and moved up in my career. I didn’t care if my pieces were better than Partners. It was a passion I had and sure I spent a decent amount of money but I was always smart when and how I spent it.
I feel that point on Rolex. Met someone a couple weeks back who was wearing sub (allegedly got as a gift) and he didn’t care much about watches other than if they were expensive and recognizable (though he also thought my bb58 was a Rolex so there’s that)
It’s tough. I’m all about wearing what you want, but it’s better to be cautious when you’re new. Most people won’t notice care, but first impressions matter and you don’t want some to (rightly or wrongly) have a bad impression of you. I think once you’ve been somewhere for a little bit and you have relationships with partners / leadership, you’re good to go.
No. They should mind their own business. I have a precision airking. I wore it once and I explained to some folks it was my late father’s and I wear it to remember him.
Tbh, i am senior BA and I wear Panerai Luminor and nobody has ever said anything
Because it’s a Panerai ;). jk
I wore Cartier Louis Tank and Ballon Bleu when I was an intern - nobody ever said anything. You should be fine as long as it’s something that’s not too “flashy” imho!
Everyone who loves watches, will like it. Everyone who doesn’t and has no clue about watches, will never come around to understanding why you wear a nice watch.
It's an appreciating asset. Would they rather you spend your money on a car?

Wore a sub as a first year, only person to ever call me out was an SM who was also into watches and it was actually a great conversation starter
I have worn my 6263 to clients pre-covid several times and no one gave a damn.
Cost focused studies, I mostly stick with my 1972 Omega speedmaster or JLC MUT moonphase. Otherwise I used to wear a hulk quite regularly pre-Covid.
Watches are great ice breakers. Used that several times with senior partners and clients.
Disclaimer: I’m not an associate.
I wear a YG Day Date. No comments except from other watch people.
