Is it just me or is the associate role these days just a fancy position to be a page monkey. I don’t understand why so many managers (and even EDs) micro-manage their associates and BAs. It seems like a distant memory when Associates and BAs had a decent amount of autonomy and sense of ownership.

I’m responsible for strategy, comms and key partnerships for a bank product. It reports through Customer Experience but touches product, Ops. marketing. It’s basically a Project Manager role but more nuanced.

Looking for advice: I have an analyst (9 months on the job) who still doesn’t get it - repeatedly misses comments, doesn’t follow instructions, slow, etc. I have raised this to both my MDs and they seem to be adopting a “not my problem” approach when I mention it. I had advised against hiring this analyst post internship and my MD insisted that all the issues I highlighted were fixable. I have tried teaching him to no avail and frustration with him is growing. Any suggestions for how to handle?

Got a verbal offer from the Partner. He wants to bring me in and asked my expectations. I told him a 140K with Manager position. The role was for a senior with probably a lower comp range but he said we can work it around and will talk to the recruiter.

Each week’s schedule is different for 4 weeks (20days) and then it starts all over again. 17 of those days I teach 6 or 7 classes and 3 of them I teach 5 classes. I’m terrified of this school year!
