If you’re not laid off yet, why leave now? It’s highly unlikely that you’ll be laid off while pregnant. Take your hard earned benefits and LOA. By the time you’re back, situation may have improved anyways. And if not, you’ll have better reason to take a break and find new job.
I actually think if you are having a child that now is the time to communicate that in writing along with your intention to continue driving value for the client. I would be very weary of laying off that person due to potential discrimination claims.
Of course it’s ok, but keep in mind many employers have a policy of one year tenure before being eligible for paid parental leave. So you may find something great but have to trade paid maternity leave and have only unpaid or a very short amount of disability pay.
Definitely a good point, but not a reason to avoid the job search in the first place. Just a consideration to bake into the decision process once you get an offer.
I would tell them right away even if it’s early on. It might not protect you from being laid off but if it’s between you and someone who’s not pregnant all other things being equal...I think your job would be safe
This. Declare your pregnancy as soon as you can.
Actually, you're protected from a layoff as long as you're pregnant and then within maternity leave. Too risky to let you go during this period... You can easily sue.
Yes, but I’ve seen it happen to a colleague at 8 months pregnant. Didn’t have the $$$$ to sue.
Well they don’t know I’m pregnant ...yet!
And they are not even asking or considering if you are or not - which came to me ad a BIG surprise from a firm who harps so much on being peoples person - so better be prepared!
If you join a new firm pregnant, wait for the offer, then negotiate for whatever they offer those who have been there a year. Trust me on this. I went back 6 weeks after my first kid was born and I’m still salty about it. She’s seven now. I didn’t have the confidence to ask.
Careful you may not be eligible for maternity leave if you are not employed for at least 1 year.
I’m guessing there is nothing in our policy that states you can’t interview while on LOA. I’m pretty sure you can’t actually work for anyone else while on LOA, but interviewing and even accepting an offer with future start date is likely ok. I’m no lawyer though.
These layoffs should end in another couple weeks. Hang in there until then. Why resign right now
