They're definitely legally allowed to do so. I would guess this sort of thing is explained or covered in your company handbook. I expect everything I'm doing at work, on a work computer, to potentially be tracked and monitored.
Not in ‘Murica, the home of the brave and the land of the free, 🦅 🇺🇸

Yes. If you’re on company computer or VPN, employers are allowed to monitor your activities. Even your own ISP can see what you’re doing. Just don’t surf the web on company computer, use your phone instead.
Google computer monitoring for more details (do it on your own phone)
Yup. If your on a Mac you can see the monitoring software under profiles usually
I’m surprised anyone working In tech industry wouldn’t know this, especially after we just had a 80% remote Covid economy for 2 years.. of course they watch you. Is this your first job
If you're working from your work computer then it is likely that they are. My company tells us up front that they have the right to monitor our activity. They can see what websites you're on and for how long.
If they do you should be aware of it. The info is probably buried somewhere in a guide or handbook. I suggest you ask HR to remove any doubts
Yep they certainly are allowed to do so. Best to assume they are watching, but you could also just talk to the person sending the slack messages to find out for sure and to learn what they are monitoring for. Shouldn’t be a secret if they’re commenting on your work activity in real time…
Many companies use project management or communication tools that can show your activity. It's usually more about ensuring tasks are on track and resources are used efficiently. If you're concerned it might be a good idea to check your company's policy on monitoring or ask HR about what kind of tracking tools are in place.
