Sorry won’t happen. Btw the comment about not being an acting senior without being compensated… that’s how you get promoted. Show you can do the next level
Acting senior is part of the job as as A2. Its not “promotion without pay”
I mean no offense, but every single high performing associate / senior thinks like this. You just simply don’t know what you don’t know.
No offense taken, if anything I appreciate it, sometimes ya gotta hear this haha
Who isn’t an acting senior at Big 4… it means nothing
Remember it’s a marathon not a sprint young padawan
Everyone thinks they’re above average. Look up the Dunning–Kruger effect or Illusory Superiority.
No one gets promoted from A1 to S1.
Not true. I graduated in May one year, and was a Sr the following summer, and this was few years back.
I received an incredible amount of RTR’s and all amazing snapshots though.
Then I realized that working 40 hours and having a life > working 2x as much and getting rewarded with 1.2x the pay. Now I’m a manager value WLB a lot more than I did back then.
I know only one person who got promoted from A1 to S in a year. But he also got promoted to M1 the following year. And in another 2 years to SM. He also got all 99s on his CPA tests. It is possible.. technically
All 99s on cpa ? What ?
Could be office politics
“Work speaks for itself” is not a thing in corporate america. You need to advocate for yourself and let your managers know that you want and deserve a promo
Won’t happen
I’ve seen it happen exactly once. But the staff 1 had prior experience but was new to big 4. Absolute rockstar, was also early promoted to manager. With 100+ other people at 2 of the 4? No.
Lmao dude just chill. But don’t think it’s possible to have 1 year experience. Usually 1.5 yrs. So if you get hired jan 2022 then next summer 2023 July you can be S1.
similar timeline
It is possible. I’ve seen it multiple times with ph.ds in transfer pricing (PwC) and jd/llms in ITS (EY). But never seen it with someone who only has an undergrad degree.
I appreciate the encouragement. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice to hear the reality of the situation but seems like aiming high is looked down upon to a certain extent haha.
It can and does happen sometimes. That being said, your PML or equivalent likely would have talked to you about this already. When I was an A1 my PML asked me about it and I declined because it meant getting moved to a different engagement in a new industry with a new partner/manager group. If you’re getting the reviews and performing at that level, it wouldn’t hurt to ask your PML. The worst they can say is no but then at least you tried. The grass isn’t always greener. Enjoy it while you can.
It’s uncommon but not entirely out of the realm of possibility. You would likely need to have already had a few years experience when you started as an A1 (eg hired as an experienced associate) though. I would recommend asking your managers and other leaders for constructive feedback on your performance to gain their perspective. Push them to be specific on what if anything you would need to improve on/add to your skill set to be viewed as a S1. This will help you chart a path to promotion
I would highly recommend reading the books “the leadership pipeline” and “the performance pipeline” both by Stephen Drotter. These books very clearly and specifically outline what the experience and expectations are from an individual contributor all the way up to CEO. They take a corporation view so will have to adapt for professional services but still very good.
