Is it worth stepping down in title from Manager to Senior Accountant if you dont enjoy your job?

Worked in public accounting for 3.5 years focusing on income tax (provision, compliance). Then took an industry position with a small tax department where we handle everything other than payroll. Long story short, the VP siloed the department and pigeonholed me in indirect tax.

I’ve been looking for an Income Tax Manger position for a while but haven’t seen a lot of opportunities.

Why do leaders keep comparing how “good”the new staff/seniors have it because they make more money starting out then they did and working 55 hours is better than the 70-80 hours they used to work? Instead they should compare what options they have available to them and what their goals are.
