I think I’m 10-15 years too late. No one values copywriters anymore, especially if you don’t have awards and/or decades of experience.
I always wanted to make TV commercials. I still think they’re the most effective way to advertise, regardless of if they’re on traditional TV, steaming, YT, etc.
But no one wants to spend money on them, and when a client does, good luck getting on that brief.
Then you have to sit there on a Sunday and hear “WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOOPPER” after your team throws a game ending interception.
I’m with you. I always wanted to work on them too 🥹 but everything is social / TikTok now.
Technology really has changed things. And sadly, it is going to continue to change the way that we work. WIth AI taking over things, life as we know it is about to change.
Everything has already changed.. wave one in 2020 with pandemic and TikTok then wave two 2023-present with AI
That's true, the way people experience media, and ads, is just different. But some things are still the same, we're writing or designing things to get a reaction in the reader's mind. So in that sense the delivery vehicle being a phone instead of a glossy magazine page doesn't change the essential nature. But, of course, the work is different, there are new freedoms and new constraints and new ways to think about the work.
