But why are they doing it? I don't see a reason. Are they getting ready for Trump?
Which office/LOS? If so,very soon they have no one to do the work
OP, start applying to other jobs. The other company will only have to do a H1B transfer which is much easier than going through the lottery process.
PwC2 I'm actually am H1b holder; when I see things like this it strikes fear in me.... First year visa holder and now I'm trying not to panic. 😞
I got your question wrong. I didn't get the H1B even though they applied for it. Why are they laying off the people who already have it?
Just read a thread of EY laying off 25 people (Houston)
Why are big 4s doing this!
Maybe it has something to do with the expected future recession. Whenever big4 decide to layoff people H1B holders are usually the first in line
PwC2 I've never heard or seen the bug4 layoff the H1bs as the first line; please watch what you say... If you have seen it give specifics so you don't create general sense of panic. It's hard to have your whole life ripped out from under bc of a visa.
The visa is only valid for so long so life for an H1B is finite anyways. You have a harder argument to layoff an American citizen when the American and the H1B are equally well performing. We come here under the presumption not to take away American jobs and if there are layoffs the % of jobs we hold would go up. Also, they can't make it seem as though they want to phase out American workers for cheaper and more vulnerable foreign labor. There are companies that use variations of that strategy.
So what should be the next action of such H1b holder? We build assets here over a period of time and cant go back to our country within a month
PwC3 you must be an American or work for HR. Everyone thinks firms go through all the trouble to hire H1Bs. It is true, but at the same time do you think a firm will be publicly criticized for laying off a bunch of H1B holders as much as they will get criticized for laying off American citizens? From the way you think 'it's hard to have your whole life ripped out from under bc of visa'. It is not that in this country. It has happened to a few of my close friends. Some couldn't get the H1B from the messed up lottery system and some have been laid off due to made up reasons like the company doesn't want to support the EBs after H1B expiration. If you want more specifics, there is another thread on fb right now about this laying off. Check out how one of the guys got laid off because 'he doesn't meet the firm standards'.
I'm sorry to hear that. I can understand the situation you and everyone else who got laid off during the last few weeks in. More companies would like to hire you now compared to the initial time you went through the process. Good luck!
Pwc2 why you think they won't let you transfer back? I know someone has the same situation as you. She transfer back to US after spending one year in her country. Good luck.
Risk Assurance. West coast
I'm Risk Assurance too in SE. I think same thing is happening to me. I mean what else can they do?
I guess following other big 4s. DT and KPMG are doing the same
*big4
I have started applying already. Worst Friday of my life!
Lets hope for the best
Can anyone share the FB thread that has more info on this?
I'm not sure how to share another thread. It starts as 'Confirmed EY Houston is laying off people'
