Hello All, I have offer in hand of 27.5 LPA+15% variable from ZS Associates as a BT Solutions delivery consultant and now my current company is ready to retain me by matching the offer & assuring that they will send me onsite to UK in couple of months. Now I am in a dilemma of what to do as I have been looking for onsite opportunities for my entire career so far. Kindly share your thoughts. Agree with both of the above. There is virtually no growth path in the technical/delivery path; promotion is only related to sales and/or management. But if you like those things, there are lots of options. People definitely have hobbies and families and at least my market does a lot of social events together.
There’s a continuum. There’s pure business development with no delivery, there’s “manager” where 5-10 consultants report to you so you are a career coach and have to do internal work and maintain a high utilization, and there’s client service which is a blend of sales, delivery, QA, and relationship management; there’s practice area leadership wherein you own the P&L for the practice while also delivering. There’s also a principal role that has parts of all of that. And to make it all more exciting, some things have different meanings in different markets
Yes mature as is most folks are experienced and have lives outside of work.
We have compressed titles on the “consultant” end but tons of hierarchy on the leadership side. I am 5 levels below my GM in an office with 100 people.
I think big 4 is a lot flatter with a career coach and partner.
At least for the lower levels yes there is a career coach who presents you for promo and comp purposes. There are no partners, just practice area directors and MDs.
@S1, why do you recommend that folks join after making manager?
Base comp is comparable with big4.
One you come over, you decide if you want to stay a consultant forever and get inflation raises or move up the ladder into leadership.
Not my market so I can’t say for sure but I would expect the opposite - it’s among our biggest markets if not the biggest (damn I should know that 👀) and national leadership is there so there’s opportunity to see how the mothership works and work on big clients if you want to
Yes on everything except for politics. I think it’s a size thing, but it’s very clique-y
S1 does slalom not have career coaches or partner alignment? How do evaluations work / who represents you in those discussions?
SC2 - I am interested in sales and leadership - what types of options are there for growth there? Do you have to be super technical and deliver for years and work your way up to leadership/sales? Or what’s the best route?
There really isn’t a set path, but always easier to sell what you know and can deliver. I personally would make at least Manager at a big firm before coming to Slalom
How does comp compare? You’re taking a hit for less mobility, so is pay comparable to big 4?
SC2 - Is the Seattle office a good place to grow as a career - or is it tapped out because that’s where it all started?
