I’m not sure what’s wrong. But I think I’m frustrated with work and maybe the city I live in. I moved far away and I made a few friends but not a lot. I took a vacation a few weeks ago and thought it would help but I think it made it worse. It’s so cold outside that it’s hard to exercise. What would you all suggest

..does not mean you are not a hard worker.
It just means you have a life beyond work as well. And that is
completely okay.

Are there any restrictions on how much time you can stay outside the country while on H1B? I want to combine 5 wk PTO with my paternity leave and go to India for 3 months next year. Is that going to create any issues with my H1B status ?

I work at a new, small firm. We get 10 days of PTO. For family/medical leave, we get 20 days paid and then 20 days unpaid. But policy says we have to take our PTO concurrently with paid family/medical leave. That’s weird, right? It’s like you end up losing paid leave days. It makes sense to do it concurrently with unpaid leave but not paid leave, right?

Please clarify for me. I say if the salary for the position is $52,000, that's what you include when posting the job opening. Ie: Marketing Assistant: $52K. My supervisor says no, the salary is actually 74,000, because she's including health benefits and PTO on top of the 52.. I said if you post 74,000 and the person finds out it's actually 52 (probably with a take home pay of only 38) they will walk. Who's right?

Tell me if this is selfish or not. I adore my family, but since they're doing a very lowkey Christmas situation this year, I really would rather take a weeks vacation on my own. Obviously the holidays are about spending time with those you love, but I'm tired! And I see my entire family at least once a month for a group dinner. Am I a bad daughter/sister if I choose vacation this one time?

Hey guys - I’ve recently returned to work from 8 months of maternity leave. I love where I work but some things I experienced while away made returning to work not as easy as it could have been. I want to help similar colleagues and also help the business with retention of staff so I’m volunteering to work on a maternity leave communication strategy with our HR Director. My question for you is - what did you or didn’t you like about how your work treated you when you had time off to have kids?

I've been going through a rough time personally and have severe depression. But given we're still early in the year, and I think also the keener in me, I'm somehow hesitant to take time off to give myself a mental health break because what would 1-2 days off really do?
