Is there another job within healthcare that you would pick? If I had to do it over again, I think it would be physician's assistant or nurse practitioner, but I lean towards physician's assistant. I wouldn't want to do the nursing part to become a nurse practitioner. I think it would be interesting to be able to see all the different people and all the different issues that people come to see me for. What do you sometimes wish you did instead of your current profession?

Btw, it is Physician Assistant, no apostrophe. The name is actually been changed to physician associate as well.

I have a lot of friends who are NPs who love it. I could see getting into that discipline but it was a lot of school, including prerequisites, plus clinical hours to get there.

Wish I had signed on that line when they wanted me in the military

Many healthcare professionals think about alternate paths at some point. Physician assistant roles attract people who want clinical variety without the longer physician training route.

Maybe on the research side... it seems like once you work on the admin side, they try to keep you there forever

I agree with one commenter who talked about clinical variety on that side of healthcare. I think I would really find that interesting and rewarding.

I just got a really great offer, only downside is the eligibility for maternity leave is after 12 months of employment. We got a faint positive today but have had so many chemical pregnancies over the past year that I am not confident it will stick this time BUT I am on aspirin and progesterone for this try … so it could.. I want to see if I could negotiate being eligible earlier but I also don’t want them to think I’m pregnant when I’m not actually… How would you approach the conversation?
