Is there any job protection when you’re pregnant and on mat leave in Australia? I’m coming from the EU whereas soon as you announce you’re pregnant you can’t be fired (for any reason and job is held until you return from leave).

I’m originally from the US where they can’t fire you for being pregnant, but you’re definitely not protected. Unfortunately, you can be fired while pregnant / on leave and it’s cited as things like overall team or company performance.

Australia falls somewhere in between. *Assuming you are on a permanent contact* and have worked at the company 12+ months before mat leave starts (so this would not apply for Irish twins, for example), the company must hold your position for you. However, your permanent position can be made redundant , so you’d get the severance package.

No protections if you are on a fixed-term contract or casual, other than the company must offer you an alternative work role that is safe for pregnancy: https://www.fairwork.gov.au/leave/parental-leave/before-parental-leave/entitlements-while-pregnant

You are incredible. Thank you so much for taking the time to share all this with me.

For the 12 month wait with private insurance, I read that it’s 12 months until hospital delivery meaning I could get pregnant after having private insurance for 3 months. Is that your understanding too?

I didn’t realize my kid would be an Australian citizen 🙌. Theyll be a triple passport holder then 😆.

Also amazing info on the baby gear sales. I’m so sorry to hear the judgement you received related to pumping. Unfortunately that is how it is where I’m currently living too. I’ve been breastfeeding all year and when I wanted a pump everyone (including my OB) was so harsh.

Daycare is by the day?? Do maybe you only get 3 days in one center and then need to find another center for the other two days?? that’s wild. And I saw it’s so expensive 🫣

I work part time for a startup for equity and am attending an event on behalf of the startup. I’ve only been here a few months and asked multiple times to have a prep meeting with my boss. He instead sent me a 15 page document outlining 40 questions I should be able to answer the day before the event.
I’m so incredibly stressed as I don’t want to show up unprepared and make myself look bad. Idk how to make light of this situation at this point

For example after showing them multiple color pallets and CD not quite liking any of them (real Goldie locks moment) i suggested why not we do (fill in three colors here), the CD freezes up and gets annoyed because they don’t want to say yes or no without seeing it in front of them. Working on tight turn arounds and a cd who is too busy for meetings it proving tough with remote working. Any tips?

I’m beyond irritated by one of my coworkers. Just so disorganized, doesn’t show up to meetings, doesn’t reply to emails, constantly have to chase him, miss deadlines because of him. Management knows but does nothing about it. He really is a nice guy so it’s hard to hate him but I’m gonna lose it sooner or later. I’ve tried talking to him, I’ve tried escalating, putting reminders on his calendar. Nothing works. What are my options? Suck it up or leave? This is unnecessary stress for me

What’s the best way to deal with a partner that prefers working solo? For context, this writer I work with conceptualizes by himself, emails the Account team, gives deep input, and makes decisions for us without consulting with me (his “partner”) most of the time. While I appreciate his proactiveness, I feel excluded, limited, and without much room to co-lead the work with him. I don’t know how to bring this up without sounding like I’m b*tching about it.

⚠️Toxicity Alert ⚠️

My previous manager would track us by hours daily, made a fuss everytime anything stretched and guilt us for that and the unplanned leave too unless it was COVID. Hinted him a lot of time, this is problematic but apparently he considered it "standard practice for agile".

Now 8/10 teammates have switched within < 1 year of project start (6-7 months with him) which tbh had good work in our opinion and even team was fun to work with even though none of us ever met in person.

Hello! This is a long story, so I’ll try to keep it brief. I work for a very small supplement company - it’s myself (marketing/acct mgmt) my coworker (sales), and the owner. My coworker is struggling to complete his tasks/meet his goals, and the owner is coming to me about angry clients. I’m afraid my coworkers inability to complete his duties is somehow being reflected onto me? What’s the most tactful way to have a conversation, either with him or the owner? Can provide further detail if needed
