Is there any point in making partner if you don’t want to be a partner? I feel like I’m close enough that I should just gun and I can probably make partner in a couple years. I really just want to exit, but I don’t see that being an option for 1-2 years for various reasons.

Hi Fishes, I'm in a huge dilemma now. Im currently working with TCS and my CCTC is 10.29 LPA and I hold 2 offers, one with with Bank of America for 17.5 LPA Fixed and with CTS for 19 LPA.
My last date is Dec-30 and I received a call today from TCS HR for retaining me for 16 LPA max.
Earlier,before the call I had Bank of america in mind ahead of CTS for its work culture ,hike %, job security and other benefits. But here in TCS also I have very good role, job security and comfort.Please suggest!!

Working on some law firm applications tonight and it sucks that I know that I am so capable and have a strong work ethic but firms can’t see beyond grades or the fact that I didn’t go to a t14 law school or prestigious undergrad. I’ve worked twice as hard and feel like I’ve barely even gotten half as much. I know cases rarely make it to trial anymore, but I’d like to develop my skills as much as possible to position myself well when they do. There’s a practice group that I’ve been trying to find work in but whenever I volunteer to help, I always get roped in to do non billable work. In the beginning it was fine but now I’m feeling it’s never going to amount to actual work. Any tips to get more involved without all the non billables and how to approach this gently?

I used to work for Partner A in project financing and made the internal switch to work in Investment Funds team.
One case with Partner A remained, and though I stayed on, it was mostly to advise in Investment Funds, as he had been looping in another associate from his team.
This week I had to send an e-mail about InvF, and he complained to me that he hadn’t seen the draft…how do I respond?

What is a material billable hours difference from your peers at the same group? If I bill 150 less a year than another associate should I be worried?

Lawyer Couples:
I’m currently an associate (no kids) in a very busy corp group (think 50-60 billable weekly). My wife works significantly less (currently part time, 10-15, but hopefully will be full time soon). I find myself getting upset when asked to help with basic household things (trash, cooking etc.) when she’s been lounging around watching Netflix all day. Am I being reasonable or am I a misogynist? How do you deal with one person having significantly more free time than the other?

I’m a first yr in NYC biglaw (2nd yr in Fall) — is 3.2k for one bedroom in BK (think downtown BK, carroll garden, Williamsburg) too much? Always have lived in manhattan so I’m not sure what reasonable rent for one bedroom in BK is.

My dad is dying of cancer. It’s been a slow progression the past few years since his initial diagnosis, but his health has severely declined the last couple months and now he doesn’t have much longer (doctors say it could be a matter of weeks). I’m a junior in big law and in the short time I’ve been here, I’ve noticed that counsels produce perfect drafts and yet aren’t partners but partners can’t write two sentences without numerous typos. Shouldn’t counsels be partners and partners counsels instead?
