Might lead to better exit opportunities
This
It depends on your exit. Being a partner may limit your options because other employers assume your salary requirements are too high and won’t interview you. Other firms may only take you if you gave business which won’t be an issue as an associate.

I think about this all the time. I’m at least 3 years from it, probably more like another 5, but... I don’t think I want it. Seems like partners just work the same hours and deal with more bullshit. The money isn’t enough for me.
But what to do next?
Subject Expert
Not particularly. It’s a lot of work and your real exit opportunities will depend on whether you control business more than your title when you move.

There's also the equity component. It may be difficult to go through the entire process of capitalizing (especially if there are loans), then bailing out. Most firms don't just hand you your capital back immediately.
