Let's support local businesses this holiday season! I'm starting a thread where we can share our favorite small/local businesses we want others to know about!
Happy Holidays Everyone!
I have been offered a position in-house at a $500M-$1B company, mid-sized city LCOL, 10 YOE in private practice. They offered me $120k, w opp for undefined discretionary bonus. No paid parental leave or 401(k) match & only 1 week PTO in first year (but claim they have discretion for more). Is there any way to salvage this? Salary guides suggest TC should be around $200-215k. I want to get my foot in the door but this seems crazy low.
Here we go! Traveling on vacation for the next week and didn’t bring my Adderall (which I’ve been abusing for the past year). Hoping to wean myself off of it during the vacation. Wish me luck
My wife is giving birth in a few months to our first child. Should I take the full 16 weeks? Four months seems like an extremely long time. What about utilization and bonus? Getting replaced in projects and initiatives?
Supervisor said I couldn’t have week off for vacation this summer bc another coworker of higher seniority asked off the same week and two people can’t go on vacation at the same time because of staffing. But this coworker that asked off works different shift than me? He works 1st shift I work second. We have a total of 8 workers and no more than 4 work a day. can easily be covered. This has never been a problem until this year (we got a new supervisor). we’re used to being short staffed anyway
Working through nanny contract right now. Anything you wish you had put in up front that you didn’t? Also- wrt vacation, how do you handle additional days you take off? We are giving our nanny (cont’d
Dear IPG Health, it’s great you are having 2 holiday parties during the work week for employees who only live in the tri-state area. All us remote people look forward to covering for them, yet again.
What's the Maximum number of vacation leaves can be encashed in IBM while resigning? I am having more than 30IBM IBM Consulting
What are some easy to make, low stress holiday meals for a school holiday staff party? I was "volunteered" by our principal to set it up this year (🙄). I'm making decorated sugar cookies but kind of drawing a blank when it comes to savory dishes. Bonus points if you have any adult holiday themed games or fun drinks to suggest! It's off school property and there will be a bar (thank god), for context.
I might be late to this, but wtf is up with the Chanel No 5 holiday commercial. Not sure what I even just watched 😳
Need one help , for collecting Deloitte laptop i visited there collection centre by putting PTO ,can I reimburse my travel expenses (Bus Fare ) as from my home to ofc and ofc to home

Deloitters in CA: how many PTO hours can you carry?/at what point do you stop accruing (2 years worth?)
One of those days when your client keeps wanting and demanding more and more than what they are currently paying, and all of your seniors are out on vacation so you have to bear all the brunt of the client's frustration for your team for the rest of the evening 😔
Going to a holiday party that s manager is having. They're doing the white elephant game and I need to bring a gift no more than $20. I want to bring something ppl would actually want. Ideas?
Our company is moving to unlimited PTO starting next year. What’s the average time off you’ve taken per calendar year?
I’m hearing about so many company holiday parties. We’ve never had one and it makes me so bummed out! Is it just my group/dept? Do any of you oracle peeps have a holiday party??
Looking at opportunities in financial services space in consulting. I am a banker at heart with good understanding of tech. Worked mostly as a product manager in a bank, fintech and now a MNC. Total YOE - 9 years.
Senior Consultant salary bracket? 35L fixed ?
What is the salary for Insurance Analyst, Regulatory, Quality, Risk and Reputation at Deloitte? Deloitte
How do you decide that the career pivot you want to do is truely your passion to pursue over the safety of what you’ve had success with before? How do you identify the new career path and decide to pursue that passion for a career instead of a hobby?
Is Hyderabad always this hot? It is impossible to go outside during day time unless you have a car. Makes it very difficult to carry out basic errands if you don't have a vehicle.
I’ve been with Accenture for 10 years and starting to get a few bites outside. Do you still wear suits to a interview or zoom call or is business casual ok? Years ago it was always suits but not sure about 2020. Not an executive role.
Thanks and have a great thirsty Thursday!
Anyone have insight for WilmerHale?
Specifically, I'm interested in knowing:
1. The culture across the firm
2. Whether associates are (or can be) hired in offices that don't have a presence for their intended group (e.g., if I could work out of LA for the IP group, which currently does not have any attorneys in the LA office)
3. What the culture is like in the LA, SF, Palo Alto offices
4. Culture in the IP group, specifically patent prosecution
Thanks in advance!
Any co-teachers? Having a hard time lately w co teacher expecting kids to be further along than they already are and then taking it out on me and kids. It’s high school. 9th grade Alg I

Thoughts on black tie highland dress. My mother’s side has its own tartan. Could I get away with a kilt and Prince Charlie jacket at a black tie event? I’m tempted, but it might be too much.
Many say that Teachers are undervalued and underpaid bc it’s woman’s work. What do you think about this?
Hey ladies. My best friend has been dating her BF for over 4 years. She left him today after a pretty abusive night last night. She’s staying with her parents now, but is there anything I can send her to feel better? It’s so hard to see her go through something like this.
Wondering what Kirkland litigation hours look like in the NY/DC/Chicago offices. Most of the sweatshop stories I hear about are from the corporate and restructuring groups. KE lit associates - what are you billing? Do you feel like you’re getting a good variety of cases?
Managers, what do you do to keep stressful projects from hurting your work/life balance?
Additional Posts in Law Exit Opportunities
Considering a move to the legal department of a big bank. Where do I go to gauge salaries besides Glassdoor? I suspect I’m being lowballed.
Giving my two weeks notice tomorrow and celebrating the fact I made a successful transition out of law 🥳
Are there recruiters who specialize in or have opportunities in non practicing attorney or jd preferred roles? I don’t want to litigate anymore but I really need help finding a non practicing role. I wonder if there are recruiters who do this.
Recently decided I want to leave big law this year. I would prefer to go in-house, but would be open to government or mid-sized. That said, I am struggling to network in DC as I have worked in Dallas until February (same firm, but moved here because my fiancée got a job here). I’ve been doing corporate/M&A for 2.5 years. Any suggestions on networking in a new city (or specifically DC)?
Let's talk legal recruiting. It seems potentially lucrative, but also saturated and very difficult to stand out other than on existing reputation. To that end, (1) how do you break in as a practicing attorney, (2) what skills and experience are useful for good recruiters, and (3) what are compensation ranges? Assume a major market.
Anyone on here have overbearing parents that have articulated disappointment in decision to take legal adjacent role? How did you cope? Being bombarded with calls that a potential job acceptance is career suicide.
Has anybody transitioned from law to an operations role at a company? I’m a 10th year attorney with an interview for a legal operations manager role. Any thoughts on that path or transition in feneral
I’m an associate in biglaw. Practice group has been med mal for a year and a half, but have four years of broad litigation experience. I want to get out of litigating, out of a firm in general, but I have no idea what kind of options are even available to me. Anyone else with this experience find life on the other side? What kind of businesses would even value this kind of background?
Which biglaw corporate practices are most attractive for in house? Currently do a mix of ECVC and M&A and looking to focus on the former but don’t want to close any doors down the line.
I’m trying to get all my ducks in a row for when I quit here at the end of next month… I am taking a break to figure out what I want to do, so I will be unemployed for a time. Do I have to notify the ARDC of this change (IL licensed)? Do I have to immediately switch to inactive status or can I stay active in case I decide to keep practicing law just a few months later? Thanks in advance fishies!!
Anyone here ever left a big law job without something else lined up and, if so, can you share a little bit about what your experience in the job market was like?
Anyone quit their job without another job lined up? Considering this option and luckily smart with savings so not an issue financially for at least a year. But curious to hear others thoughts? I hate what I’m doing and it’s just not worth waking up everyday filled with dread and stress anymore. Tried applying to jobs but running low on steam and just need a reset to really figure out what I want to do next.
So, I've tried a few different positions and still hate practicing law BUT I was approached about a contract role that won't have billable hour requirements and I won't be steeped (I think) into the law firm's toxicity, so I'm wondering if it could be the closest thing to a 9 to 5 for law. Pay is hourly which seems weird, but I would have time to devote to hobbies and life generally. Has anyone been tempted by or accepted these contract opportunities, and what's your hot take?
Is anyone interested in becoming a legal recruiter? I have a contact at one of the leading agencies who is hiring practicing attorneys to be legal recruiters. They have openings in the Southeast, Midwest, Northern California, Texas, and London.
What are the best + biggest recruiting agencies for non-U.S. placements? Do those placements work the same as the U.S. in terms of offering a % of the candidate’s base salary?

Yes, it's real in a lot of places. But unlimited PTO doesn't mean you get to do whatever you want without consequences. My firm has unlimited PTO and I have taken upwards of 6 week on average, i could probably take more if i wanted. The key is to do the work when you are there such that your manager isn't motivated to care about your PTO. Unlimited PTO just means HR isn't counting days, it doesn't mean the manager must be okay with you taking however many days you want.
It really depends on the company and group/team but in general it is a scam. At least in my experience.
I get unlimited PTO but so far this year I took 2 days off. I only survive because we have two extra company wide shut downs per quarter. Company implemented this because people can’t really take PTOs on their own (for various reasons)
