It's because all these people have ever known is the military. No experienced hires.
So true. It is unhealthy the amount of ego stoking these officers get once they are past O-5; I legitimately think it impairs their judgement at a dangerous level.
reminds me of the time SMMC Barrett came out a few years ago and testified to Congress saying lower pay for Marines would be better for discipline. Tone deaf to say the least.
What an idiot

Sick hair cut though
He’s not wrong. Semper Fi!
Recruitment wouldn’t be an issue if retention was done well.
The best recruiters are veterans. Do a better job at retention and you’ll see recruitment numbers rise as well. But with leaders like these…
He said he was going to focus on fixing issues instead of throwing money at recruiting, which sounds reasonable to me. The headline (which I know is an actual quote) is click bait.
It does mention that the other services are offering significantly hire bonuses. I do understand that the Marine Corp does not have the financial levers available that other services do. So it’s good they are looking towards other issues as well. But many of those are non quantifiable and will likely get lip service as well.
The brazen attitude itself that the quote is inspired from I still believe is it’s own issue.
“We don’t promise you a rose garden” 2.0
All of you “Armchair Quaterbacks”. Toxic, misogynistic, ignorant, insert any bad description followed by leadership, Call it what you want but if you don’t like the military, get the Fuck out. Would I have loved the extra pay??? Well no shit, who wouldn’t? But I was happy with my time, I regret nothing, I retired, happy daily just as I was when I was in the Corps. This is a VOLUNTEER military, YOU volunteered, so SHUT THE FUCK UP, quick bitching about x, y & z and do your job…and if you don’t like it, don’t volunteer or get out.
Also, if while enlisted, you don’t like where your career is going, get out and find another. If you want to stick around for a long career, work your butt of to get promoted and make the changes you feel are valuable to all. There’s more to the “like or leave it” you just have to be willing to discuss/debate it to understand it
I always think back to my squadron cdr replying to soldiers lack of personal time with “when they close their eyes in bed is their personal time”
I’m motivated
Marine un(publicly)spoken philosophy is to always leave Marines a little hungry, a little uncomfortable, a little unhappy, and stoke their aggressive tendencies. Because being comfortable is for the Army.
Not joking.
People join the Marines because they want to join what they see as an elite organization with other intense people. You’re partially right, but it’s a young person’s game. I agree they need to figure this out soon.
Integration-wise, I don’t think Marines integrate any less well than other veterans I’ve worked with. Dumb people are dumb, no matter the branch.
🤮🤮🤮. What a douchebag. I wasted a decade of youth in the Marine corps fighting wars for what? Afghanistan now belongs to the Taliban undoing years of hard work, Iraq went to shit, and my body has more issues than most 75 year olds.
EYP. Can you expand on your statement re: Iraq?
Cringe
Seems on brand given that the Marines’ recruiting strategy for most of my lifetime has been to neg people with “you’re not good enough to be one of us, but if you prove us wrong, look at all the cool stuff you’ll get to do and think about how you’ll look in a set of sweet dress blues.”
Their commercials are the shit. The army came out with cool ones with the rangers in close quarter combat
“”Our recruiting force is arguably experiencing the most challenging recruiting environment since the establishment of the all-volunteer force,” said Jim Edwards, a spokesman for Marine Corps Recruiting Command, in a statement to Marine Corps Times.”
